One thing that is clear to me in the past week is that there are many many clerics that are basically using Islam to further their own agendas throughout the world be it Indonesia, Iran what have you. This is very similar to Europe until the 16th century when the reformation (and other political situations) began to break up the hold that the Church had over the continent.

How far away is Islam from this? Who do you think might take the lead?

Islam has been changing for centuries. The Prophet Muhammad, Jesus, Abraham, Moses, or any of its major prophets (pbut) wouldn't recognize it from what they taught.

There is no way to take the lead. Islam was designed to provide a personal relationship with God. Because it incorporates local cultural imperatives, Islam is not interpreted nor practiced the same all over the world. Islam in the US is not the same as that in the KSA, which is not the same in Pakistan, as it is in Indonesia, and so on.

Unlike the Roman Catholic Church, Islam has no true center, no Pope. Trying to get a majority of Muslims - Shia, Sunni, Sufi, Ahmedi, Deobandi, etc., none of which existed before the death of the Prophet Muhammad - to follow one leader would be like herding cats.

Not gonna happen.

I keep reading a lot of this hate towards Christians, Jews and everybody non muslim. Its ok to feel it, but heaven forbid someone questions it!

Holy Kaffir Overload! People change, Islam is eternal. Islam is the Quran and those well-researched Hadiths and the Sunna. That's it. Religious innovation (bid'a) is verboten. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) could walk into any mosque and would most definitely recognize what he saw. There are no local customs. Islam has a center, worship HIM only and follow HIS prophets anything else is Shirk. Herding cats? Let's not talk Abu Hurairah, shall we? Islam is not a monolithic religion, there is free will but there are precepts of faith, a Kaffir does things and ascribes them to the ALMIGHTY.

I'm not a Muslim, though I am familiar with parts of the Koran:

Qur’an 2:62 states that:

“Those who believe (in the Qur’an), and those who follow the Jewish (scriptures), and the Christians and the Sabians,- any who believe in God and the Last Day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.”

Anyway there was a grain of truth in that paragraph in that in the past Christianity and the Masons were tied together to a degree...it was definitely not a good thing.

It's a case of people not informing themselves and innovating. If you think about things for yourself and not blindly follow some dude who's interpreting things for you, it might work out for the best.

No. This is some guy interpreting stuff in light of his twisted ideals using modern political discourse. When THE MESSIAH returns, all GOD FEARING Muslims, Jews and Christians will be united as one in battle against the Anti-Christ.
