No invitation letter needed?

Ok, just to recap real quick: Juarez received my petition on 4/19, so my assumption is that they wont be sending the invitation letter for at least another 13 days, plus another 7-10 days to receive the letter in the US (cause as we all know the beneficiary most likely will not receive anything). I shouldn't be able to schedule my appt till the end of may, right? Well I called the 703 # just to check on my status and they tell me that they sent packet 3 on 4/4, to which I reply that it isn't possible since I got my NOA2 on the 11th and they received on the 19th. How could they send it out before my case is even in their database? The lady puts me on hold, then comes back and tells me that by packet 3 she meant the document that told me my petition was approved, so really she meant the NOA2. This makes me realize she doesn't know what she's talking about, but since the NOA2 doesn't matter at this point I try to move forward. .

She then tells me that I can go ahead and pay the $350 fee and then schedule my appointment, right now. This confuses me even more because I told her clearly that neither me nor fiancé have received the invitation letter and I wanted to wait to receive it to be safe. She said that it wasn't a problem because I could do everything I needed, the medical exam and the ASC appt. with a confirmation email they'll send me after I schedule the appointment at the embassy through them or the website. Supposedly this email will contain my case # and the details of my appointment so that's why it would work. Now I don't know what to do because I'm so confused.

The worst part is that I called twice, first in English and then in Spanish. Both times I was told the same thing, but the first rep didn't speak English so well so I assumed he just didn't know how to explain himself which is why I called a second time and in Spanish. What do I do now? Anyone else been told something similar?

You CAN schedule your appointment before you receive your packet 3. Back in the ooooold days (like a couple months back before they changed stuff all around) it was always an option to schedule your appointment if you wanted to. I talked to two members who had done that a few months back just to be able to plan out their lives I guess (they had them scheduled months after their packet 3 was due to arrive since you do have I think 6 months to use it). All they needed was to have a CDJ case number. We scheduled ours before we received our packet 3 because we didn't know that we couldn't.

The only catch is that you need to bring your invitation letter (or packet 3) to be admitted into the medical building and the consulate. I guess they leave it up to you to know that you'll have it by your appointment.

If things work correctly it should show up on the usvisa website under your profile weather you make the appointment by phone or directly on the website. At that point you can choose an option to have a confirmation sent to your e-mail. If you pay the fee by phone people say you should be ready to write that confirmation number down as the robot only says it once kinda fast. We also paid the fee before they had sent out the packet 3 because we didn't know any better.

I'm not sure about any of this because they've been changing things all around since we went a month ago but it will be more obvious when you access that website.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm on the same boat, CDJ sent my letter on May 4th, it has now been three weeks and I haven't received anything, so I called and asked about my options. They said I did not need to wait and that I could go ahead and schedule everything and that I would not need the appointment letter. However I am confused, because I have gotten so much misinformation from the call center that I do not know if I will need the letter or not. The instruction packet clearly states to bring your appointment letter to the medical examination and to the consular interview.

call the 703 # and once you get someone on the line tell them everything all over again, when they (as always) say there's nothing they can do, ask to talk to a supervisor. ask the supervisor to put in a report that'll force the consulate to look over your case and provide a solution to your lack of invitation letter.

also, why don't you try contacting the consulate directly through here: https://ciudadjuarez...quiry_form.html it might take a few days but at least you'll receive a legitimate answer, none of that bull ####### they tell you at the call center. i'm still waiting on their answer but i'll let you know what they tell me. you should go ahead and contact them though no use in wasting a day.

Thank you for that info!! I just filed a public inquiry at the consulate website and will be calling the 703# tomorrow to talk to a supervisor. I am thinking that if I don't get a straight answer by Friday I am just going to go ahead and schedule my appointment and interview and head to CDJ anyway, maybe I can somehow get them to print the letter at the consulate window (which they told me over the phone was something they could do), or may be they will just let me go through the process with the confirmation email they will send me.

yeah, someone that is in juarez at the moment is telling me that apparently they really are printing the letter at the info window on the side of the consulate. this really made my day and i'm not nearly as stressed as i was over this whole invitation letter issue. they stopped printing them a few months back, but it seems that they decided to start printing them again.

really? that's good news! I'd love to be able to schedule our appointment now to be able to plan out things and buy plane tickets.. if for some reason we didn't get packet 3 before we went to the interview it'd be awesome to be able to get it printed out at the window

I have not received the packet yet, but I just called and scheduled my appointments. My ASC appointment is on Monday June 6th and my interview is on Tuesday June 7th, I will call the Clinic tomorrow to schedule my Medical Exam. I feel pretty good about it, as these dates still give me another week or so to get my letter before I leave to CDJ and if my letter isn't here by then i'll just have to see if I can get it printed at the window. Wish me luck!!
