Pakistan threatens America with "disastrous consequences"

ISLAMABAD (AP) - The [Pakistani] army and the government have come under criticism domestically for allowing the country's sovereignty to be violated.

"The Pakistan security forces are neither incompetent nor negligent about their sacred duty to protect Pakistan," he [Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir] told reporters. "There shall not be any doubt that any repetition of such an act will have disastrous consequences," he said.

Bashir repeated Pakistani claims that it did not know anything about the raid until it was too late to stop it. He said the army scrambled two F-16 fighter jets when it was aware that foreign helicopters were hovering over the city of Abbottabad, but they apparently did not get to the choppers on time.

Pakistan before be careful. We might get real PO'ed and take away their nukes next time. I would say give them to India but they don't like us much either.

The real threat is this. The US ends support for Pakistan. The current government collapses. A new government forms like Hamas.....they have nukes and could care less about mutual destruction.

If the Pakistani Government/Military ever loses custody of the nukes, they could end up anywhere, as perhaps some did after the fall of the former USSR. In the Pakistani case, we are talking about tactical nukes. In the case of the FSU, we are talking about small man-portable devices that we hope we have a correct tally of.

Pakistan should reunite with India - becoming part of India. Then let the government of India deal with the homegrown extremists.

You assume that the official government are the actual rulers--which is totally incorrect. The military (specifically, army chiefs) of that nation have been the actual rulers since 1958, except for the brief time from 1971/12/16-1977/07/05. Also, the collapse of the official government is close to inevitable as of June of last year (when army chief Kayani railroaded through a 3-year term extension--signs that he's planning a coup, which US cutting aid will perhaps prepone).

More accurate model to look at is Hitler's invasion of Norway in 1940. The Jossingfjord incident (when Philip Vian decided to proceed to take-out the Altmark while Norwegian patrol-boats were around--the fact that they didn't sink Vian's ship ticked off Hitler into preponing his already-planned invasion by a month).

I actually mean the military dictatorship. I suspect they wouldn't be able to hold the population together and would likely break into factions.
