Interview Date & Police Report Delay

Our interview is coming up on May 18th. We are concerned that the police report may not arrive before the interview date?

What should we do to be proactive? We are taking extra measures to expedite it but if we get down to the final days and it hasn't arrived do we consult the consulate before the interview date to inform them of the situation? Or do we proceed with the interview and explain it then?

My only concern with proceeding with the interview without the police record in hand is that it could cause a problem. On the other hand if we request to push the interview date out because of said issue, it shows that we are being proactive.

What is the best thing to do?

The way things work in Vietnam is that if you give them something extra they can expedite the process. Have you tried this method? You are not doing anything illegal just giving the folks that provide the police report an incentive to do it faster.

My fiancee is in the process of getting the report and doing something similar.

Pay the coffee money to get the police report done.

Worst case is that the CO gives a blue slip requesting the police certification. You turn in the missing document and the visa ought to be issued. I'd chose that over pushing the interview date.

it's me again - My rationale is that you don't want to give the CO any reason to deny visa.

She is talking with a police friend she knows on the inside who can find out more info about the payoff way that you are talking about. Also, if we get into the final days and still do not have, she will go to the consulate to inquire what to do or/and reschedule.

I second that..keep the interview date on the 18th, then submit the PC later..reschedule the interview will take another several months. If it's the Taiwain's PC then cafe money would not feasible. Good luck on your interview!!!

If its the VN PC then Hoi lo is the way to go.. we paid some cash and it was in our hand in 48 hours by courrier.. the catch is that there must be no issues or records present.. I dont know that Taiwan knows about Hoi Lo..

Thanks so much. I'll pass this on to her. I think we'll give it one more week. The crazy thing is, The P4 only allowed her 3 weeks to gather all of these documents. Not a fair amount of time for one to get everything required for a proper interview. I mean, yes we have this forum and insights. But what if someone didn't have the resources before the P4.

So that is all we are waiting on:

PC from VN: She requested 3 weeks ago. Was told to inquire after 15 days. 20 days later they said, inquire after 2 more months.

PC from Taiwan: I'm told this is in process but don't know exactly when.

So if she interviews on the 18th and they give her blue slip for missing PCs, with legit answers to why she doesn't have them yet, how long are these blue slips good for since we don't have a clear idea time frame on when to expect both certificates? (Longest sentence ever).

To be fair, the document requirements are listed in packet 3, so they do give you more than just the time between packet 4 and the interview date. The packet 3 instructions even advise you to begin collecting the required documents while you're waiting for the interview to be scheduled. If something is going to take especially long to get then you can postpone sending in the DS-2001 until you've got it. You just need to occasionally let the consulate know that you're still pursuing the visa application so that they won't let the petition expire. But, that's all water under the bridge...

A legit reason for not having them is because she hasn't received them yet. No fancy answers are required.

The blue slip will usually have a date on it when they want the requested documents submitted. For something like a police certificate I would imagine they would accept it anytime up until the date on the blue slip, and they should accept it after that date as long as you contact them and let them know you're still trying to get the certificate and haven't abandoned the visa application.

VN PC sounds like some coffee money is needed.

How were you able to apply for the police cert from Taiwan? By Mail?

Yes, my mistake. It was instructed in the P3. The dates on the blue slip: are they usually a week or two later or are we talking about months? As long as she can submit it and we stay proactive, we should be ok.

Let hope these PCs will be there in time for your interview. If not...and there's a blue..they will give you approx. 1 month to submit the missing doc. You can come back to submit early when the PCs are available.

I'm not exactly sure how she is pursuing the Taiwan PC. Someone she knows is helping her with that part.

Fingers crossed that they get processed quicker. Hopefully I will learn more tonight about what kind of coffee money we may be talking about. This is crazy but I know it is the way of things.
