Hi everyone,

My fiance and I have been bantering back and forth about this stupid medical that he needs to the K1 visa....and I am SOOOO confused. I have wrote questions about this before and dont seem to be able to grasp it.

I see the huge list of vaccinations that he needs to have....

what if he had mumps or whatever else before?

does he shots need to be within 10 years?

does he really need them to pass the medical...or just for AOS and can he get them over here?

we dont want to pay for shots.

his doctor says he wont give him any jabs.

I have noooo idea what shots he even needs, and we dont want to pay the doctors in london.

To get the K-1 visa, vaccination is optional. If you decide to have them during your medical, they're part of the fee. No need to pay extra.

During the medical, there is an immunization interview where a health personnel will determine which vaccines you should have, based on your immunization and personal medical history.

If you choose to get vaccinated during your medical, they may not give you all the needed shots because some vaccines require two doses, with the second dose to be administered after a suitable time interval. That means you may have to get them later from another health provider other than the clinic doing the K-1 medical.

Speaking based on my experience in the Philippines. Not sure if there will be differences elsewhere.

You can get a K1 visa without immunizations. Many NHS doctors provide them at no charge, but they can charge since it's for immigration. You can get them at the visa medical in London but they also charge (unlike in Manila as posted above.) Or you can wait until you file AOS and pay to get shots in the US plus pay a civil surgeon to write them on an I-693 form.

The long list is mostly for babies and children because the shots are not age appropriate for adults. Most UK adults get just two shots.

Age 19 and older

  • Td or Tdap or DT or DTP or DTaP (boosted in the last 10 years)
  • MMR
  • Varicella (or a history of having chickenpox) Knightsbridge takes your word for it.
