I see your point, however, Olbermann and Seymor Hersh aren't the official mouthpieces of the Left anymore than Pat Buchanan and Ann Coulter are the official mouthpieces of the Right. Now the question is, does Olbermann have a point? I think in the context of what he was saying, he did. However, it is a bit of an oversimplification of how our national security operates. The CIA conducts all kinds of covert operations in foreign countries without their permission or Congress (although, I believe the Intelligence Committee oversees their operations). I think we should have pause about CIA conducted assassinations, but in this case, it was with the world's most notorious terrorist and bad guy who has eluded capture for too long. It appears that Pakistan was essentially providing him a safe haven and IMO, Obama's intelligence advisers must have laid it out for him as to what is probably going on and what are the options for bringing OBL to justice. It wasn't pretty, but the decision to go into Pakistan without that country's permission or even knowledge was the only way they could nab him. This wasn't indiscriminate in any way. If future operations go like this, assassinating others, then I think we should all take pause.

However, Olbermann was making it like this was Cheney's assassination team that invades other countries without anybody knowing and assassinates people. Of course, in a way, that's what happened here, but it wasn't Cheney, it was Obama... and I approve.

Notice the reactions from O'Reilly, Beck, Hannity have all been, from what I've read, praising President Obama for this decision. ( I didn't include Rush on purpose ) I appreciate the surprisingly lack of politicizing of this by some on the right. It's too bad that everybody, right and left, couldn't be the same.

And I definitely feel that if Bush had sent this team in, there would be a lot of outcry by some about not bringing him back alive. Or killing an unarmed man. Or illegally invading a country. Or not letting Congress know what was happening. Or that he waited 16 hours and slept on it before making the decision.....

BTW I can't stand Ann Coulter.

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to buy into this "if it were Bush" hypothetical. This was Osama Bin Laden were talking about. Although there is deeply divided partisanship in this country, overall, most Americans felt the anguish of 911 and wanted nothing more than to bring the perpetrators to justice, dead or alive. So why belabor over what might have been. The jackass is dead, and it was well executed no matter who is President.

The point is, an unarmed man was shot in the HEAD. Not in the body to wound, not to 'imobolize' him. He was shot in the HEAD. No arrest, no trial, shot in the head on sovereign soil for a crime that he allegedly had a hand in.

Why do you think the initial reports were that he was armed? Because they knew how bad it would be. But they couldn't hide it for long without someone running their mouth off, so they had to tell the truth.

The next time someone is shot in cold blood who is unarmed, who everyone is 'sure' committed a certain crime, there better be no backlash at the cops. otherwise the hypocrisy will continue.

I would suggest you read archived news data from media and LWN sites from 03-08, and then look how silent they've been for the past year or two since Obama took office on these matters.

It's very much substantiated if you'd open your eyes and take a look.

Only you could surmise that because the initial reports were not clear in terms of whether or not the guy was known to be armed when he was shot this must mean that he was shot in cold blood. I think only you could surmise that Bin Laden was not responsible for the architecture of Al Qaeda as a terrorist organization who personally plotted heinous actions against not only US citizens in the US and other regions but also local populations. That Bin Laden was a terrorist directly involved in killing people for ideological/political reasons without access to justice is in no doubt whatsoever. Your accusations of hypocrisy by 'libruls' (whoever in hell you are really directing your scorn at - and as usual that's as tepid and vague as muddy dishwater) are as ridiculous as anything you have ever said on VJ, and that's saying something.
