We invaded a sovereign country, killed someone and took the body with us, then dumped him at sea. So try to imagine the Russian military inserting a team in the US, killing someone here, dumping the body in the ocean and then bragging about it on live, prime time TV. You think we would care if the guy was armed at the time?

The main benefit is not going to be that we took out the trash, the main benefit will be all the information we glean from his records and such which I am sure they are still researching. The fallout my not be too good for the Pakistan government, but again, who cares? We may be able to cut a few billion in foreign aid from the budget.

I give credit to Obama for at least having the NADS to give it the go ahead. If only Clinton had allowed the military to cap off Bin Laden when he was President, there would have been no 9/11.

I haven't been in that type of situation but I think some here are overestimating the amount of information the SEALs had and the time they had to make a decision. To me, 'he was resisting' could be as simple as, "He made a quick move and we couldn't see both his hands clearly so we popped him in the head." He heard the helicopters coming and heard what was going on outside. I don't know if he had a gun but he clearly could have had one. The SEALs don't have the obligation to take any needless risks just to try and get him alive. I would definitely fault Obama as being careless with their lives if he had given instructions to get him alive at all costs.

There's tape of Olbermann a few years back calling the SEAL team Cheney's assassination team. Now, of course, the team is heroes.

I think you, me, and almost every American has the same opinion.

You two and whomever else can run a thought experiment with alternate realities. Back in reality though, if Bush had ordered a just killing of the mass murderer OBL, almost all Americans of all political persuasions would not have any problems with the action.
