I am the petitioner going to fill out DS-156 for my fiance, should I include my name on questions 39 and 40 "Application Prepared By" and "Was this Application Prepared by Another Person on Your Behalf"? I was reading mix responses from the forums and some answers were not clear at all. So I do need your correct answer, please.

I have received the instruction from embassy stating following regarding this document:

One non-immigrant fiancée form DS -156 K: This form must be completed by K1 applicants only. NOTE: Please do not sign this form.

DS 156 and DS 156K are different. The DS 156 you can sign if you did fill it up yourself, but still the beneficiary signs after you. The DS 156K is solely for the beneficiary. :)

I remember your post and how you said your fiancee doesn't speak English that well. In your case I would sign the form that asks if it is prepared by another because it is as she doesn't know enough English to do it on her own.

In my case, my fiancee's printer is busted so I sent her the PDF's, she opened lets say DS-156, I opened DS-156 and she told me what to put in each one. She speaks near perfect English though so...I won't be signing the form as she prepared it and I just printed it.

i wonder if someone can answer this question. I filled out the forms for my fiance , checked yes for item 39 and signed it. He speaks English (he's from Jamaica).. will that be an issue at his interview as to why i prepared it and he didn't?

thanks in advance,

hello, it was really confusing for me to complete these form for my fiancée. My fiancée does not speak English and I did it everything for her, checked item 39 and signed it. It was excepted by the embassy and she was approved without any problems. I assisted my fiancée to complete DS-230 part 1 and 2 and completed item 44 indicating I have assisted her with filing DS-230. I have also completed DS-156 for my fiancée, checked question 39 and completed question 40. i think the only document that beneficiary has to file on her own is DS-156K. Form DS-156K is very easy to understand and I had to help my fiancée to understand what each item meant and she filed it herself. I am sure someone with more experience can have better advice and hope my experience can help you as well. Good Luck!
