Medical/Vaccinations w/ K1

Hi everyone,

I did a search on this and didn't see anything on point to our situation - I understand that you don't need another medical if it's within a year (only vac supp) but what exactly has to happen w/in the year? Sending the packet in? Getting the 693A signed by the civ.surg.? NOA1? NOA2?

The reason I'm asking is that my husband's K1 medical was done on 10-21-05. Unfortunately he has no records of his immunizations so we'll either have to do titres or new vacs - he won't be added on to my med insurance until 10-1-06 and that way none of the vacs will cost us anything so I'm hoping I can put this off until then but am I cutting it too close to the year mark? I don't want to risk any unnecessary delays.

The medical has to be done within 12 months of when you file for AOS... I had to have all the shots done here as I did not have any evidence of shots done before... I went to a local medical center and had them all done for $15...

Thanks Kezzie! Here's my totally ####### side coming through but when you say "within 12 months of when you file for AOS" does that mean the NOA1 date?

The date of receipt is the date USCIS will use...

One more question please Kezzie - how did you know what vacs were necessary? is there a link to a list somewhere or does the civ surg just know what is necessary?

i will just piggyback on kezzie's reply to clarify -

you do NOT need a flu shot unless you are 65 or older

you do NOT need hepB series unless you are 19 or under

pertussis is for kids

polio is also for kids

varicella (chicken pox) is only required if you have never had the disease

mumps/measles/rubella (MMR) is usually done together as 1 shot

diptheria/tetanus is usually done together as 1 shot
