Birth Certificate Translation

I searched for an answer to this question but nobody seemed to be asking it..

I need to translate my husbands Long-Form birth certificate. It is in a very specific format with finger prints and stamps, and the page is blocked out in a specific way. I can translate the words myself but I'm wondering how the formatting works... and if I need to put EVERYTHING or just the part that pertains to his birth...

It seems that a simple word document won't do because of the complexity of the birth certificate. What's the best way?

I suggest having it translated by a third party and having it notarized. A good question.

I think I would translate the words, trying to keep to a somewhat similar layout of the original. I would not worry about the extra stuff on it, like prints and whatnot. Just layout the pertinent words in a Word doc that follows a general pattern of how they are laid out on the original. Then add the certifying notation at the bottom of it. No need to notarize.

Translate the words and try to keep the format as similar as possible, but for things like seals you can just say something like "Official Seal of Ecuador" or whatever part of the government it represents. Basically, they just want to know what it says and format is not too important. At the consulate, you will not have to bring a translation.

Since some of the birth certificates require additional "attention", it could be best for a third party to process and edit the translation. These individual or firms are licensed and provide a certified legal copy of your document. Perhaps, the additional expense will bring some ease to your process.

Si, man. You could even type the translation without worrying about layout -- simply describe each portion: "Header, right column"; "left sidebar"; "official seal overleaf"; etc. People (well, most) aren't dummies and will be able to figure that out.
