UK Embassy DCF Questions

Been lurking on this forum a while now and finally decided to sign up as we have some questions that we have not really found 100% answers to.

So the first question is when to apply. The conditions say that it has to be after six months however we want to factor in the IR-1 not the CR. So we were thinking from everything we have read thus far that we could:

- Apply via DCF about August or maybe earlier next year.

- The interview would probably then be just after January 21st which is when we were married so then on entry to the US I would be granted an IR not CR visa?

Am I right in thinking the current processing time for DCF is around 10 months?

Yet another question is about the joint sponsor, does it help to have more than one and can you have a sponsor with no income but can use their house/cars as assets? Also if it is the case of just assets both for the sponsor or for ourselves, is it 5x the poverty?

If we did have to go just on our savings for just me and my wife, how much would we need to satisfy the requirements? 3x the poverty?

One more query is the Medical, how do I know which ones I need as the vaccination chart seems hard to read. Do I only needs the ones where it says 18+ (18-65 etc) or the ones before 18 even though I am 24?

I am pretty sure we have a thousand more queries but these seem to be on our mind the most right now, if anyone can give any insight it would be grand.

Thanks! : )

You can get an IR-1 if you have been married for two years at the time you enter the US. So another option would be to get the visa before the 2 years are up, and then delay entry. (It's valid for 6 months).

DCF 10 months is a bit pessimistic, despite what they say on the website. It seems to be more like 4-6 months for most people in London. No guarantees!

Dublin

March 1 2011: submit i-130 to Dublin, request medical records and police reports

March 20: told not enough evidence that we are actually resident in Ireland, i-130 returned

April 1: submitted again with lots of evidence.

May 9: Receive packet 3, return DS-230 part 1 and notice of readiness.

May 16: Receive notice of June 2 interview.

Thanks for the reply, I think we may apply around May time or even just before that next year now given the 6 months you have with the visa too.

I just saw some peoples timelines of recent DCF and they seemed around the 10 month mark, maybe I just saw the worst cases will look into it some more : )

It is really hard to find out some of this information, especially regarding the medical and vaccination requirements.

The best way you can speed up the process is to get your paperwork for the second stage in order early. In particular: vaccination history, police reports from places you've lived, i-864 (this is the big one).

Currently the processing time is longer than 6 months, early last year it wasn't, so there is no way to guess how long it will take when you decide to apply next year. We filed in Jan and have heard nothing from London yet and am expecting the whole process to take around 9 months. But as advised, it does help to have all your documents together and ready to move on once the I-130 is approved.

You can only have one joint sponser. And you should bare in mind that the poverty levels and visa prices usually change each year. You can use assests but they need to be something easily liquidated, a home isn't considered great because it can take time to sell (especially in this economy).

The vaccination sheet is a little confusing, if you're 18+ then you need to have the ones listed for 18-65. I just took mine to my nurse and we went through my records and I got the shots I needed.

Its great that you're doing the research now so that you know what you're getting yourself in for but you should also note that things change with immigration. Forms, Prices etc. And there is some talk about DCF no longer being an option and that the 10month guideline might be the start of all I-130s being approved in the US. Good Luck.

Yes unfortunately time does change a lot of things. I hope it will still be available for us. Hmmm I wonder why some people have been mentioning two joint sponsors then?

I guess more research is needed on the assets front then, so many people contradict themselves saying house/cars are perfectly fine then others say it is a no go.

That is reassuring for the vaccinations, if that is the case I will pretty much have all the ones needed : )

Thanks for the reply and I hope your application is approved soon!

Read the i-864 instructions, they're pretty clear about what counts.

Different embassies may differ, but you are allowed two joint sponsors. Even the i-864 form has room for that.
