Nurses currently applying for RN license in California

My wife in January applied for her RN license with the California BON. She received a letter that stated as of Jan-2011, they have changed the requirement for Psychiatric nursing, and that she must retake Theory & practical, before being allowed to take the International exam.

Just wondering if anyone else is going through this, and if so have they found schools that are offering this as a standalone course.

Thanks

I don't know the answer to your question. I just wanted to point out that it is very likely possible for your fiancée to apply to sit for the NCLEX through a state that doesn't require her to take any more courses. Then she could simply endorse her license to California without having to take the course. You might want to check it out. Every state seems to have different requirements.

Wrong

California does a in house evalution of transcripts. The transcripts needs to be sent directly from Nursing School in PI to Cali. BON.

This is for endorsements of licenses and also for new applicants

nope.all you have to do is apply for a license by endorsement.that is,if u are licensed to another state.like what i did,i was licensed in boston, massachusetts and just had my license reciprocity.i think you will just have to pay for the nursys verification. (for the CA board's verification.),go to their website/\.

Wrong Again

You might of received a Temporary License, but in order to get a Permananet Licenses you must submit your transcripts from your school.

What is your permanent license number or your name? It can be looked up here

Just a update in case others have to go through this. National University on a select basis will allow you to just take the needed course(s). The head nurse there says this comes up from time especially when the California BON changes a requirement. In our case when we applied to Cali BON, they did require transcripts get send directly to them from the school in the Philippines, but Ann has never applied nor received a license in the US before this.

I called many collage, and Jr. Colleges, as well as most trade schools, and all answered back, was that they had thee year waiting list for their school, and priority was to new students. Basicly they were not interested in helping a internationally educated nurses, who just needs just one or two courses to be qualified to take the NCLEX exam.

Post violating the TOS has been removed. Acceptable portion of the post has been returned below. Any more such posts will result in a thread ban. Thank you for your cooperation.

You are assuming that since those who apply to sit for the NCLEX through California and those who are already practicing RNs in another state both have to submit school transcripts, both applicant's transcripts will be evaluated the same way and the same conclusions will be reached. :bonk:
