Hi all,

I don't meet the income requirements for the i-864 for my beneficiary husband. We were planning on having my dad joint sponsor him, as he makes plenty (he was the co-sponsor for the k-1 visa).

So as I'm filling out the i-864 I see the part about household income. My husband and I are currently living with my parents. So, instead of having my dad fill out another i-864 as a joint sponsor, should he just fill out the i-864a as part of the household? Or should he do that and still fill out another i-864 as a joint sponsor. I'm confused!

Thanks!

In your case you can do either. For the I-864, father must qualify on his own, for the I-864a you would add your husband's income and your father's for the total (and change the household count). Personally, if he makes "plenty" then I would submit another I-864 and not bother with the adding people and incomes etc, since you don't need to. It's cleaner and less confusing, at least to my eyes. Good luck.
