Hi,

I posted a couple months ago when we started this process. My wife came here on the VWP in November to visit me for Thanksgiving. She left the first part of December, and then I decided I wanted her here for Christmas so I bought her a plane ticket for a couple weeks later. She purchased the first ticket; I purchased the second. Keep in mind, we were not married at this time. Initially, her return ticket was for January 6th, and when that date rolled around we realized that she did not have seats for all of the return flights, apparently my mistake when signing up for the ticket. So we decided to change the date so she could stay longer (Around February 17th.)

Around Valentine's Day, however, I decided I wanted to marry her now rather than waiting until later, so I proposed and she accepted. We married on March 1st, and then after that we found out we were on a very strict time frame if we were to apply for AOS before her 90 days were up. They were up on March 19th. So we filled out the paperwork.

On March 8th, we submitted the concurrent I-485/I30

On March 16th, we got the NOA, so we fortunately got it accepted before she overstayed the VWP.

About a week later, we received the biometrics appointment, scheduled for 4/14.

On March 28th, we got a request for evidence, saying that I submitted an outdated I-864. I called and they informed me that this was an error on their part, but to submit it again anyway. That same day we had it sent back to them.

On April 1st, they received the evidence (the new I-864) and were reviewing it.

On April 14th, my wife had the biometrics appointment.

Yesterday (May 1st) we received the interview appointment, scheduled for June 7th.

We were both really surprised by this. This basically means that it will be less than 3 months from the time w submitted the paperwork until the interview, and from what I have read 4 months seems to be a minimum. Do we have anything to worry about? Is it odd that the process seems to be going so fast? Our local USCIS office is Charleston SC, so I'm not sure how that would have a bearing on this.

We really just want to get this over with, and maybe we have no reason to worry at all, I was just really shocked by the brevity of the processing time for us.

Any ideas? Does the quick time indicate we have anything to worry about, or that we don't have anything to worry about? Or is it completely irrelevant to the outcome? Any information you could provide would be appreciated.

Thank you!

3 months is pretty typical actually. When we filed, we were the last of our monthly group to get an interview, at 4 months (our local office was the slowest in the country at that time). The short amount of time has nothing to do with anything, except that your local office has an opening for interviews.

Thanks for the information! It's good to know that the processing time doesn't indicate anything. I guess I should be thankful to get it over with as soon as possible.

I know there are a lot of threads scattered around about the interview itself, but was wondering if you could provide some insight regarding my particular situation.

How much do I really need to bring to show bona fide marriage? When we filled out the package we submitted an affidavit for each of my parents acknowledging knowledge of our relationship, some cards given to us by my parents for holidays, some pictures we took together at Chuck E. Cheese (cheesy, I know), stuff like that. We're both 25, and English is the primary language for both of us.

However, we don't have a joint bank account, we were going to wait for her to change her name to open one (and we are waiting for this process to be over for her to change her name). She's not on the lease, because you have to have a valid SSN to be on the lease at our apartment complex. We don't have any children...so I just want to be prepared for this. It would be heartbreaking for them to deny our petition based on a lack of evidence for a bona fide marriage, so do you have any opinion on this? I would think that our age/common language would help alleviate some potential red flags that could occur, but I figure it is better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks in advance!

Ah, we all wish we knew the golden formula. There is no way to know what is "enough." I would get everything you have and that's the best you can do. The lack of some types of evidence is understandable because of your recent marriage and lack of SSN etc. They will listen to your explanations, and they may net even be needed. Similar age, first marriage for both, etc are positive things. They also look at your interaction with each other when you are there. I would get everything you have though, because if it is denied she will not get a chance at appeal, because she entered on VWP. Be prepared but not scared. They just want to determine that you have a real relationship. Good luck.
