Hi,

Is it ok for embassy to ask for original + a copy of original for packet 3.5. I thought they only need copy and they will see original at the time of interview.

Thanks

Sham

I was wondering about this, too, and I'm not sure I understand your response. You say "give you your originals back" ... so do you mean you do need to send them with the packet and they will be forwarded the embassy and returned to you at your interview? Of course I'll do whatever I'm asked, but I'm not crazy about trusting these people to keep track of my originals if I'm definitely gonna need 'em later!!

Raymaga says it well. Embassy takes a look at the original and keep the phtocopies in the file and return the originals. The relevant documents are birth certificate, marriage certificate, divorce certificates (if any), death certificate (if any), police ceetificate. They will keep the original DS 230 part I and II.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

I understand that they will return the originals, but they are asking in packet 3.5 CR1 to send originals and one copy. That means I have to send orginals and then at interview time they will give the original back.

If they are asking for the original, then send them according to the instructions. They will likely to return the originals during the interview.

interesting answers....

I wonder if this question makes things more complicated, hehehe.............

I am supposed to send originals(her BC our MC etc.) to NVC. I ssume these originals will get forwarded to the embassy. Are these the originals that you are saying we will get back at the interview?

Because others here have posted that my sweety should also bring with her, originals to the interview.

So now this is confusing.... if the originals sent to NVC are forwarded to embassy for interview, why would my sweety also need to bring originals to the interview. Hmmmm....

Anything submitted to NVC in the original form is not required to be on hand at the interview. The list one receives in the packet from the consulate is generic and contains much of what will have already been submitted to NVC and forwarded to the consulate. eg mine requested everything be in a particular order for interview, with original and a photocopy in behind (and out of any folders). I just omitted anything already submitted to NVC. At the interview they will sight the original and take the photocopy.
