Key information that enabled the Central Intelligence Agency to eventually identify the courier came from detainees held by the U.S., according to senior intelligence officials, and crucial information came from interrogations years ago of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, officials said. Mohammed had been subjected to waterboarding and other brutal interrogation methods.

There are also some stories, mostly from DailyKos, that flat out deny any waterboarding ever helped to provide any intelligence.

Yes, enhanced interrogation techniques. Those are awesome. And so reliable. They got us this useful bit intelligence which is one of the centerpieces that made up the foundation of the flawed argument that we ought to go and invade Iraq.

"We've learned that Iraq has trained al Qaeda members in bomb-making and poisons and deadly gases."

Too bad that it was entirely bullshite. Quite often, this is what you get with these techniques. DIA knew that and advised the administration accordingly. But they rather relied on the intel that a prisoner under distress offered. But hey, it only cost the lives of a few thousand service members and pocket change to the tune of over a trillion dollars. Could have been worse, right? We could have not gone in...

In the rock paper scissor world of intelligence, does water boarding really beat good old fashion drugs?

I don't know for sure, but drowning is a primal fear, and any technique that plays on primal fears is especially effective. Have you ever been woken by acid reflux in the middle of the night? I hear the sensation is not that different.

Your link disappeared. I'd say any drug that creates a reasonable chance of harming the person should not be administered, though I couldn't tell if the malaria drug counted or not.

I took some of the anti-malarial drugs for either 21 days or 28 days, I can't remember which. When I only had a few pills left, for some reason, all the dead skin fell off the the bottom of my feet in chunks. Maybe it was just coincidence.

People pay good money to have a pedicure to get results like that, and you got a twofer, you should be ecstatic!

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

-Clearly you have little idea how interrogations gather info and that Intel is processed and acted upon.

It's easy to lie during interrogation... the part that is difficult is to know what information your interrogators already know to be fact... and what they don't know.... or do you suppose they only ask about things they don't yet know?

It's not an exact science but it beats

Q: So do you feel like talking with us today?

I pulled the link.

A few reasons;

1. It was written by a liberal. I'm not a liberal, I'm not a conservative or a moderate. I'm a, I don't give a $hit! Just tell me the truth. I thought maybe, the fact that the article was written by a liberal, might garner me the wrong label by some VJ's.

2. I think that particular drug is being administered in excessive amounts, in order to make detainees more vulnerable to interrogation. Yep. I like to consider conspiracy theories.

3. There is a valid argument that the dosage is perhaps, tipping some detainees over the edge and into suicide. I decided to back out of a potential flame war and pulled the link. :innocent:
