i'm thinking about some situations I have been through and it got me to thinking for f*cking arguments sake...how many people hate your situation with your international love? Better yet, have you severed any relationships because you're going through this Visa process that you never expected to go through??

To date, I have gained support from all of my family (which I wasn't expecting), and tension has developed with two of my friends although it's not just the visa process...the other factor is that some bitches just can't stand to see you happy!!! let me know what you guys are going through....

My friends were doubtful at first, but quickly turned supportive.

(Most of) my family was doubtful at first, but slowly became supportive.

My sister publicly insulted and denounced us both on facebook the night before our wedding, and continued to send my husband hateful messages and leave comments on his facebook page insinuating that he was just using me for a visa. We both defriended her, and I've pretty much ceased communication with her. Easter was the first time I'd seen or talked to her in 6 months. It's no loss, though--she's always been crazy.

All I know is my kids like her, my ex loathes her, the people at my church are polite to her, and my family, well, let's just say I live my life and they live theirs. (My family is nowhere near me :dance:  ) Besides I live my life, and I have never been happier. the only people native to America are the Native American tribes. Everyone else here had to immigrate from somewhere at sometime in their past. they just forgot that at one point their family was new here to. the problem is not that there are people we could marry in America. The issue is we treasure some traditions and values much more highly those those we meet around us.

It is very hard sometimes. You can decide to take in the negativity, or choose to leave such influences and make more positive moves of your life. It really is that simple.

August 23, 2010 - I-129 F package sent via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation.

August 30, 2010 - Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS) e-mail, petition received and routed to California Service Center for processing. Check cashed. I-797C Notice of Action by mail (NOA 1) - Received date 08/25/2010. Notice date 08/27/2010.

After 150 days of imposed anxious patience...

January 24, 2011 - Per USCIS website, petition approved and notice mailed.

January 31, 2011 - Approval receipt notice (NOA 2) received by mail. Called NVC, given Santo Domingo case number, and informed that petition was sent same day to consulate.

Called Visa Specialist at the Department of State every day for a case update. Informed of interview date on February, 16 2011. Informed that packet was mailed to fiance on February, 15 2011.

February 21, 2011 - Fiance has not yet received packet. Called 1-877-804-5402 (Visa Information Center of the United States Embassy) to request a duplicate packet in person pick-up at the US consulate in Santo Domingo. Packet can be picked-up by fiance on 02/28.

March 1, 2011 - Medical exam completed at Consultorios de Visa in Santo Domingo.

March 9, 2011 at 6 AM - Interview, approved!

March 18, 2011 - POE together. JFK and O'Hare airports. Legal wedding: May 16, 2011.

Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.

I can relate to most of you. I have had a very similar response from my family. They think he only wants a visa but they havent even taken the time to meet him or learn anything about him. My sister and I had some issues becasue of him but so far it has been settled on my part. I wasnt there when they had their issue/confrontation so I am not getting in the middle.

Most Dominicans are very skeptical of this process they think people only want the green card so I just ignore it. I have seen some very successful marriages come out of these situation within my family adn friends as well as some disastrous ones. In ever relationship there are risks but with great risks come great rewards. Don't let anybody doubt you. Your friends should let you know how they feel but support you anyways. That's what friends do!!

I got some teasing from co workers mainly cause of my ex wife (day after she got PR she ask for divorce out of the blue) I had to delete a friend from my facebook but my family is completely supportive they know I love to travel and I meet people from all over the world. My Mom was surprised I did not marry a woman from the Ukraine because that is where some of her family came from, but like most Americans if I would marry someone from where my family came from I would have 8 different countries to chose from. I think it comes down to who you surround yourself with I do not care for negative people and chose not to be friends with any. Just as long as you are happy that is all that matters. No one knows what is in your heart but you. Daniel

The only issues I have run across have been from so co-workers or casual friends who don't know even a 10th of our situation. The family is generally supportive. One brother dissaproves, but not because she is a foreigner, he just dissaproves of everything in general and lives to make people unhappy :P I don't live near most of my family either so that helps, but my sister is already talking about learning chinese so I would take that as a good sign.

My friends have been pretty accepting of the situation, but I will have no problem axing a "friend" who gives my wife any kind of grief. I don't think that will be a problem as they have all been supportive so far. One couple even has two daughters adopted from China and hasn't been a problem in our social circles.

I live in Florida, around alot of "Rednecks" (including myself at one time).

My co-workers all frown upon my situation (how I met my husband and this process), My best friend treads lightlty, but you can tell she is worried for me, my family are 2 faced nice to our face and then talk #######, and one of my nieces that I absolutely treasured (I practically raised her)will not talk or see me at all anymore.

I love my husband. So I deal with it but it is very hard sometimes. I only cry over my niece, everyone else I do not care what they think or how they feel.

both our families didn't have any problems with it,of course the first time we met they were a bit nervous but everything went quite smooth even her parents are a bit overprotective...

we had a lot of problems with her two stupid cousins and some of her other relatives who acted like if we were a freak-show so f**k them and we no longer had any kind of contact with them.. Friends were and are all cool with that - none of them acted like if we were nuts to be in a 4300 miles distance relationship and if they thought that at least they had the decency to keep it for themselves.

My husband's family totally love me. They had never thought I was with my husband because of the visa or something like this. I am really blessed to have them in my life, specially my mother-in-law. I can say we are friends and I love her with all my heart. My family loves my husband too but since most of them does not speak english they do not have that much communication

And my friends thought my husband and I were crazy but now they know we love each other and area super supportive! Everybody knows we will only be happy if we are together so they cheer for us!
