My wifes niece (12yrs old) is not wanted by her mother and her father is not physically capable (disabled due to seizures and brain injurys from a car accident) of taking care of this girl.

From what I can read, the only way to bring her here would be as an orphan (student visa is out of the question due to the cost of a private school and related expenses). If we obtained medical records that show he cannot care for her and we adopted her, would that work? Poor kid really has no where to turn :(

No, there is no exception for medical issues.

Have you looked into paying for a boarding school there, it may be significantly cheaper than here?

Sorry to know that even her own mother is not into looking after her kid.

Unfortunately there is no option as adopted, to adopt someone both parents need to be deceased.

Unfortunately ppl have mis-used the adoption process in past, which has led to more stringent regulation for bringing over adopted children.

You can do that, but that is not the perm solution to your situation.

If granted then she would be granted F1, means you will have to be willing to pay for international tuition for her.

As someone said prob paying for the housing and boarding in the home country would be a better choice and you can visit her as often as you like.

We have establishedadoption is not the option here. If they [he/she] are willing tooffer better education whether is in their country or the US, will be theirchoice? I am sure they are willing to financial support their family. Wouldn'tyou do that for your brother/sister kid?

I believe every optionwill have pros and cons.. they will find out when they research more.. ..

By any chance I am not discouraging them, but I just mentioned a solution that was posted by another user for a similar question. I know leaving a 12yr old by themself in country would not be easy.
