Hey everyone, new here with a question. I was traveling in SE Asia and met a wonderful Russian girl in Thailand. She wants to visit me in the US but has no money or assets in Russia. OR job for that matter. Is it pretty much impossible to get a B2 visa without a job or house in Russia? She would be applying at the US embassy in Bangkok.

Yeah it would be pretty much impossible. If she can't show strong ties and money in the bank then the chances of a tourist visa, let alone a B2 visa.

That's kinda what I thought. I suppose at this point we need to spend more time together either in Thailand or Russia or wherever she can get in and determine if we want to pursue a fiancee visa. I don't even know if I make enough dough to successfully get one for her.

I think you answered your own question quite beautifully. Her chances of getting a tourist visa are near zero, and you have other things on your "to do" list, such as finishing your education, getting a top notch job, starting a career, saving money, buying a house, saving more money, going out, having fun, getting laid . . . . all of which doesn't require a visa.

If you have checked off your "to do" list a decade from now, and haven't met a woman you feel is "right" for you, or realize that only a Russian woman will rock your boat and despite all efforts can't find a Russian woman anywhere near to where you live, then it's time to deliberate plan B.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but we men have the disadvantage of having two brains, the upper and the lower one. Oftentimes the lower one causes us to do things that are just crazy. In that case we have to force our upper brain to take over until we have a clear head again.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Thanks for the unsolicited advice on what to do with my life.

Spend some more time together as well as do some research on fiance(e) and spouse visas. That will help you map out a plan of procedure and costs.

A denied tourist visa application on her part will not have an impact on a future fiance(e) or spousal visa petition. So it's worth a try, but if she has no demonstrable ties to home or the country where she is residing then it will likely be a tough sell at the visa interview.
