You do all the forms ahead of time, and there are plenty of them along with a ton of evidence that you have to supply, all capped with an interview at the consulate in Manilla--they attach the visa to her passport. At this end, she will be fingerprinted and will have what is normally a very quick interview by the CBP folks at the airport (be sure to read about experiences at the airport that you will use by clicking on the POE button at the top of the screen--she will see that for the most part getting thru the airport is simple and quick, with a few horrible exceptions). The green card and SS card show up in the mail, although you can go to the SS office after a week or two to get the SS# if it hasn't showed up yet.

Let me just add a personal note from me and my wife. We are 100% focused on the end game when she walks off the plane in Newark, has a quick conversation with the CBP officer, gets her visa stamped, and hears "Welcome to the United States, and good luck !!" Why focus on something so far into the future?? Not so far anymore, we hope. Because there can be lots of stumbles along the way and you will see plenty of people on this web site grumbling over what are usually pretty small things that can be easily corrected and for things like wait times that simply are what they are and all the grumbling in the world cannot change.

Our view is simple--the prize is that "Welcome to the United States, and good luck !!" It's for all of us--my wife, your wife, everyone who wants to be here. Best wishes.

I WANT TO MAKE SURE IF THE CR1 NON IMMIGRANT VISA WILL ALLOW MY WIFE TO WORK WHEN SHE ARRIVES HERE IN THE US OR DO I HAVE TO FILE A EAD AS WELL?

SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT SHE WILL BE ABLE TO WORK WITH A STAMP PERMIT ON HER PASSPORT WHEN SHE ARRIVES IN THE AIRPORT BUT THAT JUST DOESN'T SOUND RIGHT TO ME.

Actually, CR1 / IR1 is an INMIGRANT VISA, it allow your wife to work you need ti file for a social security number
