I got the letter saying exactly what to bring, but a lot of it says only if I hadn't submitted it in already (which most of it I have). Someone told me I should bring everything anyways. What is your opinion?

Also, what questions will they ask my husband and me? We talked on the phone for over 4 years, at least 5 hours a day, so we know each other pretty well. However, are there any "hard" questions that they ask? Like, "What can you offer America"? I'd like to plan those answers ahead of time. Is there maybe a website that gives you example questions that they will ask? When I get nervous (which I presume I'll be), I sometimes stutter, and I don't want them thinking I'm lying or anything!!

Not sure if this is needed to answer the above questions, but I married my husband while I was a tourist, and so I'm adjusting my status. Interview date is for May 23rd in Norfolk, VA!

I think reading the reviews for your local immigration office should give you a good idea on the most frequent asked questions in that state. I would also bring copies of everything you submitted to the NVC/USCIS and correspondence they have sent you in addition to your proof of relationship. :)

Thanks, but here's one question I'm afraid they'll ask: "Why did you get married while on a tourist visa? Why did you not file for a fiancee visa like you're suppose to?". How am I suppose to answer that? We honestly just decided that it'd be really cool to get married one year since he proposed. So, 2 weeks later, we got married at the Town Hall. Would that be good enough as an answer? I didn't know all the rules of immigration prior to this!

They will not ask you any hard questions, tough questions, trick questions, or questions you need to study for.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

We were not so different than you. You should not worry first. Bring evidences as much as you can. And keep this in your mind: They are looking for some evidences that indicates your marriage is real and they have to keep some evidences to show why they approve your apply. Being denied is exceptional.Stay calm and definetly be honest.

Tell them the truth! You were here and you decided to get married! You don't need a fiance visa to get married here in he US. You were here legally on your tourist visa. You'll be fine. Believe me, you are not the first person to do this.

Ah, if only that was enough.. but in immigration, love rarely is. USCIS requires hard facts to prove that the marriage was entered in good faith from both sides - saying "we got married because we love each other" doesn't quite meet the burden of proof. But, I'd assume Canadians are not on the top of the immigration fraud -list, and people do marry and AOS from non-immigrant visas all the time, often without any problems. Just answer honestly, bring all your paperwork with you neatly organized so it is easy for you to find a specific document if requested, and try not to stress about it too much before hand, even though it's hard. You don't need to show that you "offer something to America" - that kind of proof is required for employment based visas, not for AOS through marriage. If your paperwork is in order, your marriage is legitimate, you and your husband know each other and can answer probably very basic questions about each other and your relationship, you should be fine.

hi Amy-Rose,

I got married while I was on a tourist visa though it was not the initial plan, it's just we figured it'd be the best way to go with when I was visiting the States. At the interview the officer didn't ask us why we didn't apply for fiance's visa. He just wanted to know how we met, developed our relationship and how we ended up getting married. he also asked about our parents and how they reacted to our relationship. I think they just want to know that you guys are not faking the relationship and marriage.

for more questions just do search here with key words like interview questions and you should be able to find a lot of helpful links.

Good luck!
