We filled out the SSN application and we planned to give it to the consulate officer at the interview. When will my SSN card be issued? We put my mother-in-law's address for both SSN and GC. As far as I understand will the GC be shipped as soon as I activate it at the POE. I wonder if I get my SSN after the activation or right after my interview is approved. Thank you for your help.

The automatic SSN issuance is spotty. Best to go to the SSA after you get your green card and not even wait for the SSN to get to your house.

If the SSN card has not arrived by three weeks following the POE go to the local office and apply. Green card should arrive within 4-6 weeks. It will be be proceeded by the welcome letter which will include a receipt number that you can use to track production of the green card via the USCIS site. Good luck!

ssn application is never processed at a US Embassy IV unit - must be inside the USA, first.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
