Where's my wife's green card?

My wife has been here approximately 2 1/2 months on her CR-1 visa. We have not received a green card or any correspondence from the government at the address we listed as our residence here. Is this normal? I was under the impression you would receive the green card automatically roughly a month after arriving. We've been married just over a year so she is still on conditonal status. Do I need to contact someone or is this length of time still normal??

I don't know if it's normal or not, although I don't think it is. If I were you, I would make an INFOPASS appointment at a local USCIS office regarding this.

That does seem long...I think it took a little over a month for my wife to get her green card. Has your wife received her SSN yet?

Could be just backlogged at the POE and when the gov't almost shutdown too.

Not normal, this is way too long, you need to make an infopass. Is this the same address your wife gave at POE?

Also, when you go for the Infopass appointment, have your wife bring her passport. They will be able to stamp her passport with the I-551 stamp (if they haven't already) that will give proof of her status as a legal permanent resident.

What is an Infopass??? Never heard of that.

I asked her if she gave them an address at customs when she came in. She said they did not ask her for an address. We filled out what address we would be living at here in the visa paperwork though. As far as an I-551 stamp, I'm not sure what that is -- in her passport she has her US visa page and a small purple 'Admitted' stamp from customs on the next page.

As far as SSN, I was waiting for her green card to get here before I worried about that. I figured I would have to apply for one -- do they send one automatically? If so no we have not received that either.

As far as a USCIS service center, I found one on the other side of town but it says it's an 'Application Support Center'. The nearest field office is almost 2 hours away in San Antonio. Is this not something I could talk to them about on the phone??

You should have received a Welcome letter and then a few days after the Greencard should have been received in the mail. If you did not receive either of these then they have a bad address for you unless the post office does not know the address. As far as the SSN, only a few people receive this after checking the DS230 to receive it automatically. You will need to go to the SS office to get this but I believe you will need the greencard.

Are you in Houston? If so, there is a field office here around where I-45 & BW-8. The "application support center" is a small service center that only does biometrics.
