Hello, I was unaware that my fiance could apply for a temporary Tax ID / SSN once she entered on a K-1 visa. Currently we have submitted the request for the adjustment of status, have completed biometrics and are awaiting the interview. Is a temporary SSN required for the interview? It seems to be for opening a joint bank account. Will this hurt us in the interview if we don't have a joint bank account? Can we still apply for the SSN and receive it in time? We are past the expiration for the K-1 and have been waiting for the interview ~ 3 weeks. Thanks

no such thing as a temporary SSN. It is possible to get a ITIN from the IRS but it is NOT to be confused with a SSN.

SSN is not required for AOS interview. A K-1 entrant can apply for a SSN from day 1 to day 76 of entry. If you are outside that then you must wait until the EAD or greencard are issued.

YMMV
