What comes after the term " last update"

I submitted by K3-visa along with I130 back in November 2010 and the only notice I got from the UCIS is just the reciept of my application. I keep checking my status online but I do not see any progess except " Initial review". I recently signed up online to keep me updated and it does show that last update on my case was March 16,2011. I am just wondering how often do they update those information. I heard from some friends that I may get a notice from the UCIS any time before even they update the status online. Is it normal to see an update online March 16, 2011 and expect to get an apporval later on ?

Update just means they took a look at your case. It really has no effect on when your case will be approved. Hopefully you will hear something from them soon. God willing.
