I'm not presently in jamaica, and I'm trying to calculate the amount I'll be paying for stuff when the time comes around. Does you know how much the medical is? It isn't listed on the website.

When I called I explained that I couldn't find my vac card, and I asked them to include it in the medical. The receptionist explained that I should take a max of 30000jad= 300+usd. She also explained that the cost could go up and that I should call back a day before going in to do medical.

Holy hell! This is so typical. When prices are given in USD, everything is "subject to change," even after your appointment is made! I'm already looking at USD1,100 for my return flight (in the states now), my police certificate, my medical, passport pics, the green card processing fee, and that pesky no-impediment certificate. It ain't cheap!

The final cost will vary guys depending on the amount of vaccinations that u will have to do but they usually have a standard cost I think it can be anywhere between 100-150 USD (in Jamaica that is) dependig on which of the facilities u use... So u have that standard cost then the addons depending on and I'd u will need any vaccines.. I was told to take 30000 too for each person so I went there with more than a hundred grand and I only used 37000 for all three of us but I believe in preparation and I always keep my immunizations n childrens up to date so they only gave us the flu shots which they say became mandatory a few months after 2010 (when I did my medical in that year the flu shots were not mandatory)... Key is preparation n getting all ur files together and remember if u r taking any medication u have to take it to the medical with u and the other things they ask for

It seems like this wait for my interview date to reach is longer than the years of waiting to become current....I am sooo excited and nervous. Applied for my police certificate yesterday and I scheduled my medical for next week. Never been more excited to get injections lol.

Haha. Have you gotten an updated tax return for your sponsor?

Guys, turns out I might need a joint sponsor. :-( My mother and I were reviewing her latest tax return and (because she had a drop in her income due to starting her new business in 2012) her income doesn't meet the 125% poverty guideline for her household. Does anyone have any experience with using joint sponsor? Does it have to be a relative? Given that the case is already completed at NVC, do we contact them and ask them to submit a new joint sponsor affidavit or simply bring that to the interview? I'm trying to be proactive and avoid whatever might cause a delay.

EDIT:

NVC just told me that the joint sponsor can be anyone, as long as they're a citizen, employed and can meet the minimum amounts per household. They said the joint sponsor simply needs to fill out an affidavit and give it to me along with their last tax return, last pay stub and proof citizenship, all of which I should take with me to the interview.

Hope this helps anyone else in a similar situation.

good.gif contacting NVC was the right thing to do. Same here, I also need a joint sponsor which that person is willing to do it for me. smile.png

Well the person apparently doesn't need to be a member of your household. So you could find out whether there's a friend of the family etc. who could help.
