I do know that what you share with CRA is effective for GST and Child Tax Benefit. Have you called CRA yet?

Or if you had set up "My Account" while you lived here you can do it all there...

My next suggestion would be to call CTB and GST individually.

These may help you:

http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/benefits/gsthst/g...ntact-e.html#q6

These are supposed to assist you in informing them of a change of residency. #6 on both GST and CTB. It should also lead you a way to contact them and inform them to stop payments (if they don't figure that out by the address)

I just recently dealt with them...

I first changed my address through the website, had to get an epass....then I called the customer service line and made sure it was changed.

I received my CTB and GST check at my US address. Because I just married this year, I then faxed them a copy of my marriage certificate along with my new address...again.

CTB called me about a month ago stating they had NO idea that I was living in the USA and eventhough my address reflected that and I had received 2 checks there, they did not change their personal records until the received the fax from me.

So, I exhausted all avenues: website, phone, and fax...the only thing I didn't do was go there in person!!

But they finally have it right!

I sent a letter to CRA informing them that I no longer lived in Canada and to please stop all GST payments and gave them an updated address. They read the new address part but they didn't seem to get the part about stopping the GST payments from being deposited into my account in Canada cause they kept on depositing them til the end of the year. Then when I filed taxes Canada Gov sent me refund of tax money...wow I was surprised. But then about a week later they sent me the letter to reclaim the GST rebates that were deposited into my account.

One of the easiest ways is to ask your Member of Parliament's (MP) office to notify all of the appropriate Canadian government offices that you have moved and provide them with both your old and new address, your SIN, and what benefits you receive (Child tax credit, GST, CPP, etc.). You will have to sign a consent form for Canada Revenue Agency but the office can fax you the blank form, you can sign it and fax it back giving them permission to act on your behalf. If you receive any Provincial benefits, and to notify your Provincial Health plan, you can make the same request from your Member of Provincial Parliaments office (MPP).

You will also want to notify CPP, etc. along with any pension plan and life insurance plans that you have about your new beneficiary (your spouse).

What I also did is prepared a form letter that I copied and then wrote in the name, address and account numbers and if there were any special benefits, etc. for every organization I needed to inform them of my move (credit cards, utilities, services, government agencies, etc.) and mailed those out in sealed envelopes, keeping a photocopy of the completed form for myself. I used the Post Office change of address cards for everything else.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Do I need to contact the Canadian Goverment telling them that I have moved out of the country if I wasn't receiving ang Child Tax credit, GST or CCP ect ... ??

Also I have recently applied for Canadian Employment Insurance and they know that I am living in the US ... I haven't received any checks yet but I have been receiving cards to fill out ...

I wouldn't want to remove ties with Canada until I am unable to receive Employment Insurance correct ?? Which would be 90 days from the date of my I-94 (which is middle of October) at which time I would stop receiving Canadian EI (thats only the case if I actually do end up elligble to get EI) unless I get my 1 year EAD before that date ...

I have a good chance for a job here (already had one meeting with them and we are meeting again in a few weeks and I get the impression that it is a done deal) once I get my EAD so really I am not worried about EI once I get the 1 year EAD ...

Even if you tell them you have moved, the CRA will not stop paying your GST and Child Tax Benefit.

1) This is one reason to keep your Canadian Bank Account Open until you have finished all of your business in Canada

2) Keep the payments in a separate account. Once you file your Leaving Canada Tax Return, they will send you a bill for the moneys due to them.

It depends when you left... You have to be a resident of Canada the day the benefits are paid.. if your leaving Canada date is before those dates, then they will ask for the money back. If it's after the last payment date, then they won't ask for the money back...
