Hi

I'm just starting to gather my information for the K1 Visa. I have a few questions- it would be great if anyone could help me clarify them. The questions may seem ridiculous but I'm a bit ####### retentive so please forgive me :P .

1: I don't have a certified copy of my birth certificate handy. Can I just mail in the copy that I have + copies of all the pages of my passport?

2: I'm 22 and I'm still in college. That means I'm unemployed. My dad supports me and he will be supporting my fiance when he comes to the United States also atleast until he gets his permission to work. I am unemployed, however I do have a significant savings account. Do I still fill out the I-134 or is my dad the only one who needs to fill this out?

There are so many more questions floating around in my mind. This site has been a saviour. Thank you for your help ahead of time.

~ZZ

Also- if anyone has or had a fiance or husband from Iran I would really appreciate any advice or experience you can impart  .

{1} I would recommend getting a certified copy. They are super easy to get through vitalchek.com. And it's just good practice to have a certified copy in your posession. That being said, your passport (all pages) should be sufficient. But, why not include both? It might just help to ease your mind in this crazy process.

{2} I'm not quite to that step yet, so I have no idea. Remember, that the financial information doesn't need to be sent in until AFTER your I-129f petition is approved (after you get your NOA2).

Hi from another ####### retentive filer! :P

All the pages of your passport should suffice alone; including a copy of the birth certificate is fine but unnecessary.

You and your dad should both fill out an I-134. Claim what you can, which isn't much since you have no income, and your dad will be a co-sponsor. You don't need that form till your application is approved and forwarded to the embassy, though.

True all pages in the passport should work, but I would get a cirtified copy of birth certificate just in case.

For me I just went to my county department of vital statistics and they made one out in less than 2 minutes.

More documentation is much better than less.

Since you already have your passport's all pages copy ready, you can just send them for the citizenship proof. You don't need to send a copy of your birth certificate. USCIS needs either/or not both of them.

I am not sure, about I-134 issue regarding you, but someone can help you, for sure.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

About the I-134 you both will have to fill one out, on yours indicate that you will be using father as co-sponsor.

I felt the other answers were unclear on this ( ). You can (and should) submit photocopies of all of your evidence documents, so you can mail a copy as of today.

BUT, you will *need* a certified original later, so *do* get a copy of that ordered, as mentioned.

There is a recent Iranian case.. look for the Turkey thread? I'm pretty certain Iranians are still interviewing in Ankara. I don't know anyone here personally, but one of the moderators at this group has an Iranian husband, and she is very helpful with how to get paperwork etc.

Thanks meauxna for the link to the other site. Reading all of these posts makes me realize how nervewracking and stressful the K1 visa process is. Plus, having a fiance from Iran isn't making me feel any better  .

Well, hopefully it will all end happily.

I will definitely get a certified copy of my birth certificate for the interview (when we get there :P) but I don't want to have to wait the 2 weeks to receive it before I send off the papers to get everything started.

Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions

Trying not to beat a dead horse, but I'll elaborate a bit on the I-134.

For you to be the sole sponsor, you have to show that you can adequately support your fiance should he need help or have employment related issues down the line. The most important thing is your work-related income. You must earn a percentage above the poverty level to qualify. If you don't have a job, then you don't qualify. You will need to fill-out the I-134, AND find a co-sponsor who qualifies that will also need to fill-out the I-134. The co-sponsor doesn't need to be a family member, but it is probably best.

They do look at whether you have money in bank accounts, other assets, or stocks and bonds. But, that is really in supplement to your income. If you don't have any income, then you will need a co-sponsor. They also consider if you are having to support anyone else, like a child or other family member.
