It wouldn't hurt a copy of but the petitioner should have sent them in with his papers in the US. To be honest I would get one as my consulate lost one of my now hubbies divorce papers and then we had to do a mad scramble and get express mail to AUS.

No Notory is needed. The dissslution of divorce will have a seal by the Courthouse and a effective date. It will be signed by a Judge as well. Having a Copy is good. But as the other post mentioned: This was already covered in your Original I-129-F Application and has been Accepted already.

If they questioned the the divorce decree you would have got a RFE already.

You would have to tell us. Were not the bank. You would have to tell us. How many in the family, currant income, assets if needed only. etc.

What if the divorce decree is missing from the file?

The VJ Guide suggests that you have a complete copy of the file along with originals/certified copies of the "important" documents such as birth certificates, divorce decrees, etc. in case there is a problem with missing/lost documents. Better to be over prepared and carry unneeded papers then have a delay while a problem is sorted out.

A notarized copy is not the same as certified copy. The certified copy has the stamp or seal from the issuing authority.

Thanks. I was just confused about the divorce papers. I havent been previously married but the petitioner has, therefore I didn't know if I was required to take a copy of HIS divorce papers to my interview.

The consular officer has the authority to ask to inspect originals of any evidence that was submitted with the petition. They might do this if the quality of the copy submitted with the petition isn't very good, or if it appears in the copy that something may have been altered. As Anh Map noted, they do also occasionally lose evidence in the process of moving the petition around the world. This sort of request isn't a regular occurrence at most interviews, but it happens enough that the conventional wisdom on VJ is for the beneficiary to bring the original documents to the interview. You probably won't need them, but you never know...

The OP was talking about the petitioner's divorce decree. She never mentioned whether the petitioner was divorced in England or Wales, so people are assuming the petitioner was divorced in the US. Divorce decrees in the US are issued by judges, and the original is usually maintained in the records department at the court where the divorce was granted. They won't give you the original, but they'll give you a certified copy of it. A certified copy of that original would show the judge's signature, and be certified by the custodian of records, usually the court clerk.
