The Good News:

My bother-in-law and his family are okay, and except for not having any power, or hardwire phones, they didn't suffer any damage from the second of two devastating tornadoes to hit the town in about a week.

The Bad News:

Search and rescue operations are suspended until after the President's visit tomorrow.

then the president and his entourage should conduct SAR while they are there .... it would be a good kodak moment to see him actually work ....

it would also be a sad day to learn a trapped and injured person died because rescuers were denied searching wreckage so mr president could have a photo op ....

Agreed on both accounts. Refer to post # 16 though.

so what if the hard hat is passion pink with purple polka dots ... or where it was made ....

put him to work ....

Awesome.

He could do some Red Cross type of training on the plane over there. Then he could S&R a bit.

But like I said, there will still be lunatics with an agenda beyond any kind of reasonable satisfaction.

Wouldn't I love to see that happen. It would really shut all of us up until someone else came up with something just as insane to go after.

If he goes, he stalls the search and rescue operation, if he doesn't go and visit the site, then he's ..... well, then he's chenneling his inner dubya. People like Danno won't be happy til there is an iron fisted social conservative WASP in the white house.

Government workers posting on immigration sites cost money that could save people in the wreckage. Soem people would serve society best by staying on welfare.

Where is Sean Penn when you need him? Who will go to Alabama and fix it since Obama will not?

I agree. The search and rescue is what is important, not some political imagery. I think he needed to make an appearance, but the fact that the search is going to be stalled to accommodate is going to leave a bad impression.

Suspending S&R just seems wrong. Meaning, this article is inaccurate. I highly doubt it's true.

(Tuscaloosa, AL) -- Search and rescue teams continue their mission in tornado-ravaged Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Mayor Walter Maddox says those efforts will keep going for the foreseeable future.

He tells reporters the latest numbers from the city show 45 people have been killed, 990 are injured and nearly 450 people remain unaccounted for.

Maddox says he has requested 500 more National Guard troops to come to Tuscaloosa to help keep the city secure.

The mayor says cadaver teams have been combing the city looking for other victims.

Maddox emphasized the city will need the help of volunteers from all over the state and the nation to help in the recovery.
