Oklahoma GOP Lawmaker: 'Blacks' Don’t Work As Hard As White People

The Republican-controlled Oklahoma House of Representatives passed a proposed constitutional amendment yesterday that would eliminate Affirmative Action in state government. The offical GOP reasoning for the change is that while "discrimination exists," "I don't think Affirmative Action has been as successful as we like to believe," the bill's sponsor, state Rep. T.W. Shannon ®, explained. But

state Rep. Sally Kern ® offered her argument for ending the system that helps minorities advance: "blacks" simply don't work as hard as whites:

Rep. Sally Kern, R-Oklahoma City,
said minorities earn less than white people because they don't work as hard
and have less initiative.

"We have a high percentage of blacks in prison, and that's tragic, but are they in prison just because they are black or because they don't want to study as hard in school? I've taught school, and
I saw a lot of people of color who didn't study hard because they said the government would take care of them.
"

Kern said women earn less than men because "they tend to spend more time at home with their families."

While Kern has long history of taking outlandish positions — from saying homosexuality is more dangerous than terrorism to introducing legislation to force teachers to question evolution — her bigoted comments reflect a disturbing trend among even mainstream conservatives to blame valuable social safety net programs for creating a culture of dependency or even "slavery."

I see Steven is true to form. Take the worst possible case offered up from a Leftie venue and paint as wide a condemning stoke to encompass an entire group. Even if they had nothing to do with the comment or even agree with it. Guilt by association.

Yes...the Left's version of McCarthyism is alive and well. Good job Steven!

I'll never vote GOP again.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

Don't let pesky facts get in the way of Peejay's conjecture.

What pesky "facts" do you refer to?

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

Scroll up, it's not difficult.

It just takes me back to Steven's article that unwarrantedly paints the entire legislative body by inappropriate comments that one or two idiots made. There are many worthy reasons for doing away with affirmative action (racial quotas). So why tie any opposition to affirmative action to the stupid and inappropriate comments of some idiots except to paint the entire voting block with the taint of the stupid comments? Guilt by association (or a lame attempt at it).

The title of the thread is quite indicative of what happened. A stupid politician said something stupid. I don't see why you got all butthurt, what she said is extremely ignorant.

Last time I checked Democrats in higher power were talking about certain Presidents that do not have a "Negro dialect."

Not sure what the argument is about. Affirmative Action is a racist policy from university's to the work force...it's a bunch of racist bs.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Harry Reid was mocked mercilessly for that comment for a few weeks, then it stopped, just as this woman will probably be scoffed at for a couple days til it's a non-issue.

Affirmative action had a time and place where it was appropriate. Now is not that time anymore though.

Just out of curiosity. Which parts of that statement are absolutely false?
