"Unofficial" is not the same as "secret". Secret would imply that the government was trying to conceal their existence. It's obvious why they wouldn't want to advertise them, but offhand I'm not sure whether there was an coordinated attempt to conceal them from the public. That said, they certainly have taken great pains to avoid explaining what goes on inside those facilities...

Like all of the Government's actions in the "war on terror":

When you allow the Government (or "look the other way") to take action against (insert name of terror suspect here) an individual or group, regardless of the legality of their actions, it opens the door (WIDE) for the Government to legally take action against YOU.

Not a terror suspect? Then don't worry about it. But, what about when there's no "war on terror" anymore, but because of the new standard set during the "war on terror" the Government now has the LEGAL authority to break down your door at 3:24 in the A.M., take you to a "secret" prison, "interrogate" you, then hold you indefinitely without trial, legal representation, or without even being charged because you're now a suspect in the "war on bad credit" (or whatever new "war" they're going to think of next. Don't like my bad credit analogy, insert "war on drugs" here and imagine that instead of being hauled off to county, you were hauled off to Gitmo because your 2-year-old son's name matched the local king-pin's alias. Sounds far-fetched? It's supposed to because it's not happening to you.... yet!)

Basically, what I'm trying to say here is that the Constitution (specifically the Bill of Rights) is THE LAW for a reason. If we continue to let the current administration enforce their will without regard for what is stated in plain text on that document, it will cease to exist, and secret prisons are a good place for that to start.

Agreed - first step in doing away with (or otherwise rendering irrelevant) the bill of rights and the constitution is to claim that the laws don't apply to certain people's and groups.

Honestly? Here's my opinion about "secret prisons" .

GO RIGHT AHEAD!!!!

Why?!- Because I believe that when they DO arrest someone that person is doing something they should not be doing ,like communicating with potential terrorists,acting in a strange way that leads the government to think that he/she may support terrorism. I'd much rather have one innocent person send to Cuba then one guilty terrorist running around because there's no legal way to get suspects under arrest.

I don't belive they would knowingly imprison someone who's completly innocent.

And IF that happens,well it is sad but like I said I believe they should be doing anything and everything,including some other things that have been on the news since 9/11 to protect the USA .

What other things those are,well ppl read my mind because I'm tired of being called a racist and all other nice things in the book.
