I live in Grand Prairie, a suburb of Dallas, and we have armadillos here. Obviously, armadillos live farther north than Odessa.

i used to live there - don't recall seeing any up there, but it's possible. i mostly saw them in south texas.

I'd rather you draw me a picture. I'm a librul so I like it when people do things for me.

Jersey, NYC,turnpikes, bridges, and subways...that's all your ever going to know. Well maybe not. If your lucky you will retire somewhere in Florida in a gated community next to the Mort and Sarah Goldstein from Brooklyn.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

From the article: "Those most at risk are family members who are in constant contact with an untreated person. Leprosy can't be spread through casual contact such as handshaking, or sexual intercourse."

Sexual intercourse is now casual contact? Perhaps the comma means that handshaking is casual contact and sexual intercourse is another subject entirely. I hope so, but it caught my attention.

It's not just possible it is a fact. I have seen them as roadkill in my neighborhood. The homeowner's association in my neighborhood has made it a point to tell members that armadillos are the reason for strange holes in flower beds and see this chart I found on the internet:

What does potential range mean?

And how do dillos get from the areas in their current range to areas in their potential range without crossing over areas that are not in range?

I'm going to guess commercial trucks or something. Back in Washington state there was never any possums 25+ years ago, and now you see them as road kill just about everywhere there.

Yeah but I do wonder why the areas in 'white' (not in range) aren't in range since presumably these trucks drive through them to get to the areas that are 'potential'.

Maybe their range covered greater areas but were cut off by human development. Same thing for other kinds of wildlife.

The map has the entire Wash DC, Philadelphia and NYC metro areas in light green - potential range.

Sorry, what was that about human development again?

That they may have inhabited regions in between today's habitat, but no longer (today) due to encroachment, urban growth, predators, etc. Even road construction (interstates, for example) can spell doom for some species I'd guess due to less and less animals being able to reproduce.
