Call USCIS and tell them- as it's only been a few days, it is unlikely your greencard has been sent yet and so they may be able to change the address.

How wrong was the address?

Ie if you gave the wrong house number, call down to your neighbour and tell them you might get something in the mail and could they drop it in to you. If it is an old address, talk to the old landlord...

sorry, it's going to __THAT__ address

UNLESS

you can get into CBP secondary inspection / deferred inspection office (no appointment necessary, just find it, and GO)

and update it with them.

UNKNOWN about USCIS for address updates, sorry.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

duplicate post in the AOS forum has been removed as this is the correct forum for this discussion.

Why not go to the post office and notify them of the error? Ask to speak to the Postmaster or Postmistress and explain your situation. They will know what employee has that route to deliver. Ask them to instruct that employee (or the sorting department if that is also appropriate) not to list it as undeliverable but ask them if they will 'hold' any mail sent to that address and then notify you so you can go in and pick it up with proper identification. I am not sure if your Post office will do this but some of the smaller Post Offices tend to be more sympathetic to situations like this and may be willing to work 'with you' on this matter. It is at least worth a try. In the meantime, be sure to change your address to the correct address with USCIS.

I second what Kathryn said.

In my experience, even moderately sized post offices are pretty willing to help with things like this. While they probably won't let you put a hold on an address you don't occupy... and especially not on a non-existent address... the postmaster will likely call the route carrier and tell them that if they cannot deliver a letter in your name, it should be held when they return to the post office, rather than returned to the sender or discarded. You can then pick it up at the post office by showing ID.

I have done this many times; my address is very long and sometimes the apartment number is truncated on shipping labels or envelopes, making the mail undeliverable. Simply call your local post office and tell the person that answers the phone that you are expecting an envelope with the correct name but incorrect address and ask how they can help.

I would try and find out from USCIS exactly when the card is mailed, as that will make it easier for the post office. They won't want to call the route carrier every day from now until you get it.

Additionally, undeliverable mail is not necessarily returned to the sender or discarded on the same day. Usually the post office has a designated day of the week for that. So, if you do miss delivery and you catch it quick enough, it could sit in a big pile at the post office for up to 7 days. The post office employees will usually (reluctantly) sort through it for you if you think you missed something.

Besides the above excellent advice, make sure that your name is associated with your mailbox. If you have an individual mailbox, tape your name to the lid. If you share a bank of keyed mailboxes on your street, tape your name toward the BACK of your slot (where the carrier can see it when he/she opens the back of the apparatus to slide the mail in).

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I agree with you. I've gotten mail with the wrong address and misspelled name!
