The Ryan budget has already passed the House. Now it stands a real shot at passing the Senate! Harry Reid could have simply not let it come up for a vote.

This is a HUGE WIN FOR REPUBLICANS! One step closer to final passage!

WASHINGTON -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) announced on Wednesday that he would host a vote on Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-Wis.) budget.

Reid isn't folding. He's brining it up for a vote purposely to force Republican Senators to either pizz off their party by voting against it of pizz off the voters by voting for it. The elimination of Medicare which is embedded in the Ryan plan is hugely unpopular in this country. As is the additional tax relief to the upper income brackets that the plan proposes and the uncertainty of just how he wants to "broaden the tax base". The Ryan plan is a political loser and Reid is capitalizing on this opportunity. Good for him.

Pluralities of middle-aged Americans as well as those 65 and older prefer Ryan's plan to Obama's ...

Well, then the Republicans in the Senate will proudly vote for it. I'm sure they won't be concerned with this:

Americans clearly don't want the government to cut Medicare, the government health program for the elderly, or Medicaid, the program for the poor. Republicans in the House of Representatives voted last week to drastically restructure and reduce those programs, while Obama calls for trimming their costs but leaving them essentially intact.

Voters oppose cuts to those programs by 80-18 percent. Even among conservatives, only 29 percent supported cuts, and 68 percent opposed them.

Ryan's budget prolongs the life of Medicare and prevents it from going bankrupt.

It prevents Medicare from going bankrupt by eliminating it. A program that doesn't exist obviously can't go bankrupt. Ryan's plan does not prolong the life of Medicare - or the life of Americans, for that matter. As such, it may actually prolong the life of Social Security since benefciaries won't live as long as they otherwise might and hence draw from that system for shorter periods of time. Add on the potentially more limited lifespan of Medicaid beneficiaries due to the severe cuts to that program and Social Security will be a clear winner.

Here's an idea...instead of trying to screw old people, Congress could cut the funding for two bs un-winnable wars. I'm sure that would save US lives and trillions of dollars.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."
