Just a quick sanity check on how many of you guys have had requests for both sides' parents' birth certificates because you have the same last name? I know kiki92 didn't have to but pholy did. Non-Viet-Kieus probably don't have this problem :)

Don't more than half of the VN population have the family name "Nguyen"? I know a lot of Vietnamese people, and most of them are Nguyen's. About half of the rest are Tran's. After that, it's a mix.

I'm not Viet Kieu, so it wasn't an issue for us.

"Phan" here, wife is half chinese (great grand parents on father's side immigrated into vietnam) so she's a "Dang". Wikipedia says "Nguyen" is 40% (I thought it would be more like 70% lol) and "Tran" is 11% :P

Both our mothers are "Huynh Thi Lan"'s though

My recollection is that this request occurs more frequently when you are both from the same town/village/area. But my memory has been known to be foggy at time. blink.gif
