This may come out wrong, but I am really sick of hearing about Steve Irwin.

May his soul rest in peace, and may his family get thru this tragedy. But the way people are chuntering on, you'd think he was the only man who ever died!

Good people die everyday, and yes...he was a public figure, but his death is no more of a loss than the people who died yesterday......

Steve Irwin bothered animals in their natural habitat and nature finally fought back and owned him.

"He seemed to regard animals as something he could torment … it's no surprise he came to grief," she said. "He humiliated them."

Animals don't have emotions, thus they cannot be humiliated. Is she one of these PETA freaks?

Steve Irwin did do a lot for conservation but is anyone surprised he was killed by an animal he was filming?

I was very surprised it was a stingray that killed him. There was a report Monday from Seal Beach on the local news where nine people were treated for ray stings that day. And that was a typical day. They also interviewed a marine biologist at the Aquarium of the Pacific, and he said he had only heard of one other fatality from a sting ray.

What happened to Steve was a freak accident. Hell, when we were in Maui I swam after rays. Someone on TV said it was a one in a million chance, and I believe it.

yup... this had nothing to do with pouncing on crocs... I believe this accident was NOT caused by unnecessary risks similar to those he may have taken elsewhere.

I thought animals were all instinct and emotion?

You can't humiliate an animal, but you can certainly bait and infuriate it. People ascribe human emotions to things (that don't necessarily have them) as a way of empathising with them. Drugging a crocodile and dressing it up in a party hat and a pink tutu would strike most people as demeaning.

There are 17 recorded deaths from stingrays, WORLDWIDE, TOTAL.

You don't need to be someone who anthropomorphises animals to know that they can have emotions. Dogs can suffer from depression, and do.

Apes can mourn their young.

Dogs can be humiliated when you shave all their hair off. They may face rejection from other dogs because of it.

Etc. etc.

I had a dog who was very spoiled. A West Highland White Terrier. Anyways, for a while he developed a very bad limp. He'd howl in pain and writhe on the floor and drag himself in the most pitiful way. We tested him for everything...and found nothing.

We were referred to an animal psychologist who told us to start a journal on when he did this. Turns out, he only did it when my boyfriend at the time came over. My bf would never give my dog any attn, just a swift rub on the head. So it turned out that my dog just wanted some attn!

The bf was binned *not for the dog's sake, but for other reasons* and my sweet poochie never limped again, lol.

Djew must have calm, assertive energy if djew wanna be da pack leeder. Djew will put the dog in a calm, submissive state of mind an' he won' be depressed no more.
