Hi,

I am here to ask help and advice if anyone from you or heard from anyone who has the same situation as mine. My 2 year GC will expire August 28. I am out of the country June 9 till August 10...Is there any problem for me to come back then send my application? I am starting to gather all the documents and ready to send when I get home. Am i in trouble with this time frame? Please help me ,I am in the middle of confusion and I am scared if they won't allow me to enter USA on August 10 because my green card will be expired 18 days later. Can someone enlighten me here? This site have been very useful to me since I came here in USA so I am hoping to all of you to advice me.Thanks

You can file your paperwork between 5/28 and 8/28 so you have a good 2 weeks starting the end of May to send everything in.

I am not sure about traveling on an expired GC though....

I know I have less than two weeks from may 28 to june 9 before I leave but if i will send in before I go out from the country I will surely missed my biometrics. SO I am thinking if I am still be ok to send august 10 or i will be in trouble already that time?

I would suggest you to get your paperwork ready before you leave and as soon as you come back in August, send it in that same week. I could be wrong but as long as your NOA1 date is before August 28, you should be fine. After you return, you've about 17 days so you can surely get things ready and send it to them, there is always option of send it next day via USPS to get things rolling sooner when you come back..

Get your paperwork filed as soon as you can. Include a letter stating that you will be out of the country between X and Y dates and request that the biometrics appointment be scheduled AFTER your return. Basically, when you return using your soon-to-expire GC, if you have applied for your renewal then it will be on the computer at your POE and there shouldn't be any unexpected issues. Of course, as your card will still be valid, there shouldn't be issues anyway, but it's nice to have the security of knowing that you can prove you have applied to remove conditions/extend gc. :)

We are in exactly the same situation - my husband's GC expires on July 11 and we are going to Nepal from May 21-June 23. We are preparing all the paperwork now and plan on filing the day after we get back since we will have almost 3 weeks before his GC expires.
