Late April/May NVC Filers

Our lawyer it's at least weird!!!We took control of the case otherwise we would't not find out a thing,thank God we called NVC and find out the date of the interview,she was notified by them on june 9th by email and she dind't announce us and now she out of the office untill june 27,the interview is on july 12th,the problem is that she got the check list with all the info that i need for the interview,anyways i called NVC and give them our emails and they are going to send that info to us one more time.I hope to have before the interview!

Oh my word! That's ridiculous! How can a lawyer, with active cases that require timely reactions leave the office for two weeks?! That's absolutely ridiculous. Good on you, for taking back control on your case.

When I started all of this, I contemplated getting a lawyer because everything seemed so overwhelming. Someone gave me some advice and I went with it. A friend I know from a karaoke website I work for said, "Lawyers are a waste of money. With a little time and research - you can do it. NO ONE is going to care more about your case than you" And it's true. Some people have great experiences with Lawyers and good on them but every single person I've spoken to has had nothing but headaches.

My Father is going through immigration now too. His Lawyer was a total ######. They were going a different route and were supposed to hear back in January about an interview. Still nothing but March. The lawyer kept telling them to be "patient". Actually got really saucy and degrading with my step-mother. My they wouldn't let up so eventually, even though the lawyer felt uncomfortable doing so and made it obvious to my Dad and his wife, she made a call. Turns out the letter for the interview was sent MONTHS ago to the civic address where they lived and since it didn't technically exist was returned. So they've been sitting "patiently" for three months for NOTHING. Just because they believed their lawyer and the excuses she was feeding them because she was too damn lazy to pick up the phone.

My friend and her husband are going through immigration. They filed like June/July. STILL haven't gotten an interview. I filed Nov. and even with delays on my end waiting on my co-sponsor and an RFE for an expired Police Certificate, I still passed them. All because their lawyer got their stuff confused. Too many things to mention but they ended up having to switch visa types half way through. Then they opt'ed in for Electronic processing but because they're lawyer was sending hard copies, the NVC basically made them start all over and send all hard copies. The Lawyer told them to do this because THE LAWYER didn't want to have to go back and scan/send/get new signatures for the docs they've submitted.

Unreal, truly.

Sorry, going off topic here. lol I apologize. I'm just really sorry your lawyer is not being helpful. I think it's a damn shame

My wife told me of some of the troubles you've had with your attorney. I don't understand how these people (bad immigration attorneys) stay employed.

Anna and I made the same decision to not go with an attorney, and I am -ridiculously- glad we didn't. I've dealth with attorneys before and frankly, people are right. There is nothing they do that you can't do on your own with a little research and sweat. And they don't do it with urgency, or care the way you care. Plus, they charge an arm and a leg for their lazy effort. 113/hr charged by the minute?! To send in some forms that I would have to prepare anyway, and then send them in on your own sweet time and leave me out of the loop? No thanks.

I was cruising the DHL tracking site this morning and saw another packaged was shipped out yesterady for London from the NVC, and thought for sure that would be ours! So I called the NVC and asked if they'd shipped our case, and... "No." What on earth is taking them so long?! Its been a full week since the Interview was scheduled and a full 2 weeks since CC.

I suppose it doesn't matter -when- they ship it so long as it gets there before the interview, but I just want them to ship the darn thing.

I was cruising the DHL tracking site this morning and saw another packaged was shipped out yesterady for London from the NVC, and thought for sure that would be ours! So I called the NVC and asked if they'd shipped our case, and... "No." What on earth is taking them so long?! Its been a full week since the Interview was scheduled and a full 2 weeks since CC.

I suppose it doesn't matter -when- they ship it so long as it gets there before the interview, but I just want them to ship the darn thing.

It is weird they haven't sent your case out yet, since it's been a week from your interview being scheduled. Have you tried calling up DOS and asking the same question? Maybe NVC just doesn't see your case has shipped out.

You can't get the tracking number from NVC. But there is a nifty trick you can do with DHL if you know the date your case was shipped out (by speaking with an operator). Just called dos and they said they couldn't see ship dates but were positive it had arrived because, according to them, an interview is not scheduled until the case arrives, which I thought was incorrect.

Oh ya, I remember when I was calling up DOS and they said first the case gets shipped to the consulate/embassy and then an interview date is scheduled. But I knew that was wrong

Hello all,

Was just wondering, did most of you receive your interview date before you scheduled your medical?

We had our case expedited in May, so it was sent directly to the Embassy in London for adjudication. Because of this, we can't call the NVC for interview dates or anything like that. We haven't received anything in the mail about what to do next, so finally I sent an email and got the famous "this email has been deleted" response. But a couple days later I got an email stating that the Embassy had to receive the cleared medical forms for husband before they could schedule an interview. It seems to me that having it expedited only made it take longer, since all of you already have your interview dates, and we don't have anything. We have his medical exam scheduled for June 23, but that was only out of dumb luck that I emailedd them, or else we would still be waiting for a packet from the Embassy that was never even sent!

Any thoughts?

Now i would't recommend a lawyer to anyone,we believed it easy with a lawyer,that we don't have to stress with all the paper work,and now i can't believe what she's doing!

I have questions about the sealed envelope and original documents that the applicant receives after the interview. What is contained in the sealed envelope? Which original documents are returned? Are these "original documents" everything the petitioner sent to USCIS? And also everything sent to NVC?

Inside the sealed envelope is all the forms you've submitted throughout the process (I-130, I-864, DS-230) as well as your medical results. You might be able to see it for yourself at POE. The officer opened it while asking me questions and I saw all the forms.

As for the originals/certified copies, you get them all back: birth certificate and marriage certificate. If you also sent in divorce certificate(s), you'll get those back too. Remember, if the officer forgets to give them back, just remind them.

You get the originals/certified copies back right after the interview.

For the sealed envelope, no you don't get it back. The officer just reviews the forms. The officer I had made me review the address on the DS-230 to make sure my green card would be mailed to the correct address. After your POE is done, the officer will mail the envelope with all the forms to USCIS who then keeps it for their records.
