Obviously it was s nutty statement to make. While it is true that the crime rate is relatively low in Vermont, having a low crime rate does not mean that crime simply doesn't exist and that what crime does takes place only does so when the manly men of Vermont are not out and about carrying their guns. What is more, having the ability to carry a gun around doesn't automatically give the person carrying the gun the right to simply shoot anyone he feels like even when they see other people engaged in violent acts. Anyone who ended this attack (who was not one of the participants) by shooting the assailants would be sitting in goal right now contemplating their foolhardy and inappropriate response to the situation.

That's what gets me about these nuts like Gary (or the Gary he pretends to be online). Recognizing the limitations of what carrying a gun can achieve is absolutely prerequisite to being sane enough to carry one and those that are sane enough to carry one around all the time wouldn't because they simply wouldn't see the need to.

The crime rate in Vermont is the lowest in the western hemisphere. That is more than "relatively low"

Nothing is automatic,I also posted the standard. You ignored that and assumed I meant you can shoot anyone you want. I never said that and never would. I will not debate such nonsense. The video shown in this thread meets the standard for deadly force. Had it occured in Vermont the person shooting the assailants would not be prosecuted. Check most states and you will find the same standard.

Obviously the people of Vermont are "sane enough" to carry guns without licenses and not have a high crime rate. what would the people of your state be unable to handle that?

Try me. He/she goes to the morgue, I will take my chances with a jury. Deal.

You really would deal with life in jail?

Your obviously not a Cop, District Attorney or Judge. The man in the video was prosected and may face time, for what beating a kid.

http://www.wreg.com/...s-Beating-Trial

I hope you never even serve on a jury. The "evidence" you posted was from a completely different case.

Wow. Just wow. Epic fail doesn't even begin to describe your post. Double facepalm is getting there but we need a triple facepalm to be anywhere near where your post is.

I'm still wrapping my head around slim not seeing much violence or wrong in the video.

I saw a couple of teenage girls slapping, punching and kicking a tranny who was doing very little to resist or flee. Not much of a fight if you ask me.

All this talk of a barbaric beatdown where someone's life was put in jeopardy reinforces my presumptions that most of you from the suburbs aren't familiar with the daily interactions of folks from the hood.

I would say beyond simple assault, intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Felony charges are a distinct possibility. Possibly added bonus if charged as a hate crime, likely depends on what the assailants said before, during, and after the multiple assaults took place.

Multiple assaults? Intent to cause grievous bodily harm?

Where are you getting this stuff?

And are you referring to the 14-year-old girl or the 18-year-old? Either way, you're talking about teenage girls doing "grievous bodily harm" while unarmed. Keep that in mind.

anyone who beats the ####### out of a woman (or anyone) belongs in jail for a long time.

The 14-year-old girl or the 18-year-old?

You'd like to live in a country where people shoot first and ask questions later? Doesn't sound like the US values I've grown to love.

Iv'e lived in Alaska for the past 30 years. We have an open gun law here...which means you never know who's packing. And no we don't pack those sissy ####### 9mm gang banging pea shooters like they do in the lower 48. Here it's 44mags and now 500mag hog legs. Bear as well as people are always a target. The women up here pack just as much as the men so it doesn't pay to take any chances with them either.

I can remember back in the day when patrons at the Red Dog Saloon over in King Salmon used to have to turn their guns in at the door before entering. And when there was a fight in that joint, the cops would wait until it was over with before the entered. The Elbow Room over in Dutch Harbor isn't much better.

Iv'e never shot anyone, and Iv'e had a gun pulled on me twice now...luckily I wasn't shot like my little brother. I have been knifed a few times, and when I did my 16 months in the joint it was because of a spud wrench, not a gun.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

She is not a man - she is a woman. She is transgender, which does not take away from the fact that she is a woman. I don't know enough about this incidence to say whether it was a hate crime, but I do know that many hate crimes against transgender people take place in bathrooms or after exiting bathrooms because some people feel the need to police other people's genders. I have mixed feelings about hate crime legislation, but I understand the reasons behind it - if that was the motivation behind this attack, it creates an environment where transgender people (especially women) live in a state of fear to even use a restroom in a public place. If it was just a couple thugs targeting a random woman, it does not create the same community-wide sense of fear. Regardless, anyone who beats the ####### out of a woman (or anyone) belongs in jail for a long time.

So basically, the law looks for what makes a person not a 'white normal hetero' and that could be the motivation behind a hate crime.

Isn't this kind of thinking just as racist/bigoted as prejudice itself?

'oh, you're transgender, they must hate transgenders, so this is a hate crime'

Maybe she got her azz beat because she is transgender. Maybe because she told the black girls to fuque off. Maybe it's cos she's white. Maybe the two black girls are just crazy. Maybe, maybe, maybe....

...but it doesn't matter one bit to her injuries. Those are the same regardless of WHY, though the sentence could be wayyy different because of it.

I don't get it.

 Yes, you posted the standard but quite clearly can't interpret the standard into every day life. Luckily, when it comes down to it, you are not actually as gung ho as you pretend , if you really were as frightened of your own shadow as you make out, you'd already either be languishing in goal or dead. That most people who carry guns in Vermont, or anywhere else for that matter are not totally insane is a mercy for us all.

follow up with victim... video of him/her on link....

---------

A transgender woman brutally beaten at a Baltimore County McDonald's spoke out on Saturday, saying that the attack was "definitely a hate crime" and that she's been afraid to leave the house ever since.

"They said, 'That's a dude, that's a dude and she's in the female bathroom,'" said Chrissy Lee Polis, who's 22 and said she stopped at the Rosedale restaurant to use the restroom. "They spit in my face."

A worker at the restaurant taped Monday's attack and created a graphic video that eventually went viral on Friday. After the video garnered hundreds of thousands of views on websites, McDonald's issued a statement condemning the incident and on Saturday, fired the worker that taped it.

The video shows two women — one of them a 14-year-old girl — repeatedly kicking and punching Polis in the head as an employee and a patron try to intervene. Others can be heard laughing, and men are seen standing idly by.

Toward the end of the video, one of the suspects lands a punishing blow to the victim's head, and Polis appears to have a seizure. A man's voice tells the women to run because police are coming.

"I knew they were taping me, I told the guy to stop," said Polis, a slight woman with streaked hair. "They didn't help me. They didn't do nothing for me."

County police confirmed that the attack occurred April 18 in the 6300 block of Kenwood Ave. Police said the 14-year-old girl has been charged as a juvenile, while charges were pending against an 18-year-old woman. Reached Saturday, police officials said the investigation was ongoing.

The police report does not provide a motive, but quotes one of the suspects saying that the fight was "over using a bathroom."

Polis suffered cuts to her mouth and face, and said she had a seizure. She also admitted she was intoxicated at the time of the assault.

Saturday she said she continued to suffer from painful bruises. And that she's been afraid to be seen in public.

Polis, who said she had a sex change operation to become a woman, said this isn't the first time that she's been picked on — physically — because of her sexual identity. She said she's been subjected to beatings and even sexual assaults.

She said seeing herself all over the Internet and all over the news has been "like walking out of the closet all over again." Polis is concerned that the public attention this has brought her could trigger more violence — and worries it could hurt her chances of getting a job. "I want to cry but I need to hold my head up," she said.

Her twin brother, Matty Polis, who also lives in Baltimore, said it's been painful to watch his sister have to endure these sorts of attacks.

"My sister has gotten this her entire life," Matty Polis said. "Being the way she is, she's always had a hard time."

Polis, who was raised by her grandmother in Dundalk and Essex, graduated from Chesapeake High and hasn't had a job or stable place to stay for the past two years, according to her mother, Angela Thomas. Polis believes race may have been a factor in her attack.

Equality Maryland has called on state Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler to step in and investigate the case as a hate crime.

"As a community we remain horrified that transgender citizens are so vulnerable that they can be brutalized … for simply walking down the street," said Lisa Polyak, vice president of the board of directors for Equality Maryland. "She was simply trying to use a public accommodation. People should not feel threatened when they exist in public space."

Polyak added, "This is why we need a statewide law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender identity and gender expression." The advocacy group has fought repeatedly to have such a law passed by Maryland's General Assembly.

Scott Shellenberger, the state's attorney for Baltimore County, said his office has not yet received the file and has not interviewed the victim, because the charges were filed late in the week. He said his office will likely interview the victim in the next week and a half and gather additional evidence to determine if the attack was a hate crime.

"When the case was first presented, none of those facts had been revealed to the police — which is why the charges were the way they were," Shellenberger said. "We can certainly revisit the motive for the attack and determine if we need to make additional charges."

Slim if you wish to sing a waiver, agreeing to lay down while I kick the back of your head and neck repeatedly we could test your theory this wasn't much of a violent assault. somehow I honestly believe you would agree it was indeed quite violent at the end of our test of your theory though.

I would fight a 14-year-old and 18-year-old girl any day of the week.

Believe it or not, I wouldn't just lay down, let them drag me around by my weave and then fake a seizure. I'd ask who ordered the double whoopass pounder and then proceed to get medieval up in that #######. Then I'd order a mocha frappe and calmly give an interview to the YouTube guy.
