Waiting over 6 months, service request or expedite?

All,

I have been waiting about 6.5 months for my NOA2 now.

Today I called USCIS and entered a "service request".

I got to the point that they ask if I wanted to do a

service request or an expedite. I did a service request,

but now I am thinking maybe I should have done an expedite.

Did I mess myself up by doing a service request?

Does it even matter what one I did?

What is the real difference?

Thanks,

Jim Martz

Expedite Criteria

All expedite requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and are granted at the discretion of the Director. The burden is on the applicant or petitioner to demonstrate that one or more of the expedite criteria have been met. The criteria are as follows:

* Severe financial loss to company or individual

* Extreme emergent situation

* Humanitarian situation

* Nonprofit status of requesting organization in furtherance of the cultural and social interests of the United States

* Department of Defense or National Interest Situation (Note: Request must come from official United States Government entity and state that delay will be detrimental to our Government)

* USCIS error

* Compelling interest of USCIS

if you fit in any of these then go for it. if not then you're SOL. good luck

For an expedite you would have to demonstrate some compelling reason. Your case taking so long isn't a compelling reason in their eyes. Service Request was your best bet. Have you contacted your senator or rep yet?

Thanks for the replies.

Actually that is what I was thinking while on the phone.

When I paused on deciding what one to do, they said they

could read me a list of criteria if I wanted to do an expedite.

But I was thinking in my mind from reading post on here that

I probably don't have a good enough reason to do an expedite.

So, then I just said I want to do a service request.

But if the service request gets me nowhere, next time I will

do an expedite. And maybe they will just get to my paperwork

naturally by that time too.

Anyway, about contacting a senator or representative.

I was thinking about writing one or more this weekend.

But now that I got a service request in, I am not sure if

I should wait a week or two and see what happens.

I am worried that if I got multiple request in form different

people, then maybe I will tick them off and they will make

sure that my paperwork takes even longer.

What is the general opinion on this?

Thanks,

Jim

actually there was a thread on here written by someone who had requested an expedite based on being outside of processing times and got it. He even detailed what he did so that others could follow suit http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/304363-k1-expedite/

so I guess it is possible for the OP to request and probably get granted an expedite.

Reading the post you mentioned I would have to

note that they did a service request first(although

it was between 5 and 6 months). Then they used

that as part of there evidence on the expedite.

So, I guess I am on that same course, but my service

request was placed after 6 months(5 months +30 days).

If it gets my petition processed great, if not I

will use it as part of the evidence when I then file

an expedite, as that person did.

Thanks,

Jim

Hope it brings some attention to your case, though feels like due to massive inquires they dont put much priority to those and keep adjudicating with the pace they ve been doing it for months, so dont put too much credit on service requests or ONPT. 6 months is very close, you most likely hear something within 2 weeks regardless. Gluck ! :thumbs:

Well, maybe the service request did the trick...

After about 6.5 months of waiting I called in a

service request on 4/22. Then to my surprise I

got a my I129f approval email today 4/27.

Now, I do not know if it was the service request,

or if they just naturally got to my paper today.

And I will probably never know what got it processed,

but I am definitely ready to move on to the next step.
