Hi all,

First timer here. And I have to say, this is an amazing site!

We're in the middle of the process of getting my wife's visa (currently working on taxes for i-864).

She is really worried that the process could take up to a year because of something she found on the internet where some people were listing how long it took them to get their visa from start to finish.

Does anyone have any experience or can you share reasons why your process was delayed or someone you know's was delayed?

Thanks!

Since you are already at the NVC part (as you mention the I-864), it is unlikely to take a year for you now- more like 4-5 months. The reason it can take a year from start to finish is the security checks, and the amount of applications in front of you. Most of the waiting time is not spent actually working in the petition/ visa application, but on your forms sitting in the "IN" tray waiting to be processed.
