Just wondering how much help doing a walk-in does?

Anyone have any first-hand experiences that show that it does/doesn't help speed up the process?

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png

Someone asked the same question a couple of weeks ago. One person (sorry can't remember the thread) who did a walk-in and got their EAD BEFORE their scheduled biometrics. So their walk-in did speed up the receiving of their EAD. It makes sense really because your whole case is paused while biometrics are waiting so the sooner you do biometrics the sooner your case can continue processing.

I have seen it work for the citizenship process and Some Old Guy says it worked for ROC, but I have only seen it work once for AOS. There is no harm obviously, and on the off chance that yours gets put in the "done biometrics" pile early, you stand a chance at early approval. However, the EAD is processed at NBC, and my guess from watching timelines is that for EADs at NBC, most things are pretty automated and an early bio doesn't usually make any difference. Expect your EAD sometime between 60-90 days from when you originally filed AOS. Good luck!

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Thanks, I was just wondering how it worked. I think that about cleared it up for me. I assumed that EAD was done either by your local office or CSC. Now that I know it's not, it kinda makes sense. It was worth a shot anyway, and especially for our case since we really couldn't go the day I was assigned, since Tim has training that week, so we had a legitimate reason to do a walk-in. Thanks :)
