Probably the same Christians you deride are the ones that give the most and help as many as they can. Now many of the Christians do not like Socialism and the state to take from us and try to cookie cutter approach to solve problems. The problems are much better taken care of at the state and even better local level. When Socialistic bureaucrats take the money it is lucky if even half of the money reaches down to help. Also here at the state and local do not want to be told by the lord and masters from far away D.C how and when and where and especially who.

The Christians you deride is where the money comes from not just to charity and church outreach programs but the taxes that fund the Socialism that is destroying the souls of the very ones supposedly being helped. Of course the ones whining about it are the ones least likely to give.

So what country did the European atheists move from?

European atheists are from Europe ...

Socialism and atheism are not pejorative terms in Europe as they are here

Tony Blair was leader of the socialist party and the Americans thought he was wonderful

I don't think they even realised he was leader of the socialist party

But lets not leave the main point of the thread in that CHARITY is no substitute for giving people rights and entitlements

Charity is a crumb from the rich mans table and just makes the the 'holier than thou' crowd feel good and superior at the same time

Jesus was socialist and believed in everyone helping each other and giving without requiring quid pro quo

Republican christians are a contradiction in terms and I don't think any of them will get into their heaven because their attitude to their fellow man is demeaning and grudging and insular

But since you don't believe in heaven or hell, or God, or anything other than a quiet dirt nap at the end, you get absolutely no satisfaction for being right. So, why bother, unless the rest of us make you uncomfortable in your disbelief.

I am not actually evangelizing for new atheists on this thread, I am trying to turn christians away from republicanism by suggesting that looking after old people and the weak and disadvantaged is best done through left politics rather than right and the right are immoral in the extreme

I think charity is no substitute for dignity given by entitlements which mean the sick an dying do not have to beg from the better off who are only giving charity to make themselves feel better

The system in the US is that when anyone is abandoned by the State and insurance companies, charity (the Churches) have a whip round. How demeaning and which church will help me when I am poor and dying ? Strings attached or what.

It is no coincidence that Medicare was a lefty program which the right fought all the way

Anyone who votes right wing, either has no moral compass or has not actually thought it through

Jesus WAS a socialist and did not talk about drip feeding crumbs to the poor and needy

He didn't charge for giving health care or fishes or bread

Can anyone imagine him voting for attacking Medicare, giving out vouchers and chopping widows pensions ?

Anyone with a conscience and any sense of social cohesion should never vote for the grisly party of the billionaires as it actually against their religion and the way that Jesus thought

80% of Amerticans believe that attacking medicare and SS is WRONG. Morally wrong. They said so this week.

Any christian who has a sense of morality should draw a conclusion from that

<<<What is the matter with American Christians that they can't see that their politics are the total 180 degree opposite of everything that Jesus stood for ?>>>

Clearly you are looking at Jesus and seeing what you want to see, rather than what is there.

PLease show me just one example of Christ instructing us....to compel another to give or donate or to serve.

Where does Jesus instruct his followers to corral other people into doing good works?

His message is a personal one to each of us.

PLease follow your atheism to where ever it may take you, but don't try to hijack for your own socialist purposes, the message of Christ.

So do you see Medicare and Social Security as people taking money from you and 'compelling you to give or donate'

Would you feel empowered and 'good' if the old and sick had to rely on your voluntary charity ?

The republicans have hijacked the message of christ - not me

They have perverted it to their own billionaire purposes which is MONEY

That is all you are centered on - MONEY and keeping yours or doling it out according to your whim

That is immoral and that is un-christian

1. you failed to show us even one example of Christ, instructing his followers to compel others to give.

2. Christians give and do..... more than their fair share (all on their own without anyone compelling them to do so).

3. News flash: if you really want to touch the lives of the poor in a meaningful way, the Government as your vehicle is not the way to go.
