Hi there,

I was born in Thailand and have moved to the UK since I was 22 years old. I'm now 29 years old. I wanted to get thing done before hand before I get NOA 2. I called my mom back in Thailand if she could find me a vaccination record. She went to the Hospital and asked for one. Unfortunately they couldn't get me one cuz there is no record in their system. (In Thailand we don't have a national health Service like in the UK) and back then the technology of computer system was so poor so all we had was a little notebook, and my mom lost it as well. As far as I remembered I had load of vaccinations done when I was little, the doctors and nurses even went to school to gave us shots, plus I had chickenpox when I was like 12 years old.

I went to see my GP in England and explained my situation. She said she can't just give me a shot cuz I asked her so. And she needs some evidence if I hadn't had it done before. But I have no proof :( I required for a blood test on Tuesday to see which vaccination I have already had it. But that's not guarantee if the nurse will give me a shot cuz she said I have to speak to one of vaccine nurse, and that will cost money!! Oh my god what a hassle??? Now I'm stuck! I do not know what to do now.

Is there any Thai-British here to help me?? thank you

My wife was in the same situation..no shot record.

You are going to have to get the 4 shots and a blood draw.

Without your immunization record.. and the cost for them here is 470 USD.

I asked my GP if I could have the shots as I was immigrating and the US required them and they thought it was a bit weird and unnecessary but they did them anyway for free.

Try your doctor again - loads of people get shots for travel from their NHS doctors - there may be a small fee there but I bet it's cheaper than the ones at the London medical.

You could always try a different doctor within the same practice if there is one.

I just went with my girlfriend to her medical last week in Bangkok and she did not have her vaccination records as well. At first they made her have 3 shots then as we were about to leave the dr came back and said she needed another shot and we had to wait 15 minutes with the last shot it to see if she had a reaction which she did not. You are on a k-1 visa you do not need the vaccinations until you do AOS here in the states, somebody correct me if I am wrong. I am guessing from reading Cactus John's reply it is $470 to have them here, not sure of the cost in the UK. Good luck.

AOS Journey

11-04-2011 sent AOS to Chicago lockbox

11-07-2011 delivered

11-23-2011 Check cashed.

12-06-2012 Pui's Brother unexpectly passes away and we make an info pass appointment and receive an emergancy AP so she can return home. Pui leaves for Thailand for 2 weeks.

12-20-2012 Pui returns from Thailand.

12-21-2012 We send the RFE back for with original birth certificate along with a new certificate of translation(I had to wait for her to return for her to sign)

The London medical people will take your word for it on the chickenpox.

The only vaccines you should need are TDaP and MMR, which should cost about £60 at the medical in London. So that is the worst case scenario for you. There isn't really anything bad about being re-vaccinated.

If the blood test results you are getting this week show immunity to certain things, you will not be required to obtain the shots. Just take proof of the test results to the medical with you. Of course, if you actually had, for example, the MR shot as a child then you may only be immune to two of the components of the MMR and so would still need to have that shot.

If you are using the NHS then they should really give you the shots for any of the things you don't show immunity for, seeing as how TDaP and MMR are required shots in the UK too. But it seems NHS Trusts or GPs vary widely, so maybe you won't be able to get them for free in your area.

thank you the nurse said it will be cost. But she doesn't know how much. Hopefully they can get me one. The only thing is annoyed me is I have been trying to get those thing done a couple of weeks ago but it seemed didn't go nowhere. They kept booking me to the nurse who doesn't know anything. so they couldn't give me the right answer. its really annoyed. But thank you for all the helped.

That's weird, my fiancee was able to get all his vaccines re-done in W.Yorshire by the nurse, for free- only to have his GP finally track them all down from his childhood. I guess he's really protected now!

I would think that the military would be free for you as a spouse, as long as you are insured, but you may not be insured until after your AOS. I would check. Your fiancee could easily check on that.
