SCARY: Cops Who Pull You Over And Download All Your Phone Data

Michigan police officers are using devices to download all your phone data when they pull you over, including photos and text messages, according to the ACLU, CNet reports.

This seems like a pretty obvious violation of the 4th Amendment prohibition of unreasonable searches and seizures. If a police officer can't look into your trunk when you get pulled over, they certainly can't download your photos and text messages.

The ACLU wants access to the records of those phone downloading machines. The Michigan police is using a clever but outrageous stalling tactic: they'll happily hand over the data if the ACLU pays a $500,000 processing fee. So the ACLU is threatening to sue to get the data.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I tried to warn people against banning texting while driving. See, this is what you end up with. Legal precedence to check your phone whenever you get pulled over.

"Sir, I have reason to believe you were texting while driving. Please hand over your cell phone - NOW!"

Texting while driving should be banned.

I thought it was? At any rate it is in CA; you can't use a cell phone whilst you are driving unless you are using one of those funky hands free devices. I still don't get the cell phone addiction, too old I guess. I have one, I use it, but I don't call or message folks 24/7, nor do I feel I have to answer it if it rings.

I don't know about Iphones (I will never buy a crapple product), but with Android phones any can turn off the "tracking feature" with just a click. It's not rocket science.

btw here in Alaska texting while driving is against the law.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I'll answer mine most of the time but I agree, I'm not addicted to a cell phone.
