hi gang,

I am just wondering if anyone has their temp EAD working authorization stamp on their passport from the following DC area airports - IAD, DCA or BWI????

Please let me know so I can buy the ticket to the airport that gives out temp EAD working stamp at the POE. Thanks.

Thanks. I found that they don't give the stamp at any DC airports. However, they give out stamps at JFK like crazy.

So my new question is, if I live in DC area but buy my girl's ticket and POE at JFK, is it allowed? Will POE official question her motive? Or she has to enter through DC area airports?

and I just read previous post, they are not going to give the working stamp on the passport anymore?

I would like to know too...

Can you work with a stamp only? what is the difference between a stamp and a card?

If I get an EAD at JFK, can I work in CA?

Thanks!

If you arrive at JFK and you get the temp EAD you will still need to apply for a SSN, you need to wait about 2 weeks from entry to ensure you are in the SAVE system before applying, it then takes about 2 weeks to come... once you have the SSN you can start work.

The Temp EAD is only valid for 90 days from the date you entered and then you will have to stop working until you get the 1 year EAD that you can apply for with your AOS....

You can use any POE to come into the country does not have to be in the state you are going to live....

i didn't realise that different airports had different systems, how silly! Is it guaranteed that you get the EAD if you go to JFK or is it just likely? I am headed to LA but if I can't work when i get there...

Once you get married and apply for AOS and the 1 year EAD, can you still work on the temporary EAD while you're waiting? I don't really want to have any gaps in work once I get there, I've just stopped being a poor student and he's still being one...

Thanks!

The temp EAD is valid for 90 days, it will take you 28 days aprox to get SSN, that will leave you 62 days to find a job and start work.... at the end of the 90 days you will have to give up work and wait until you receive the 1 year EAD...

If you file for your AOS as soon as you can there is still going to be a gap where you can not legaly work... unless you get married the same day as you arrive and file for AOS the next day then you might just get the 1 year EAD before the temp one expires... the average time to get the 1 year EAD is 70 - 90 days after you receive the NOA....

So once you have the temp EAD you still can't start work straight away? What is SSN....? We are actually planning on marrying very soon after I arrive so perhaps I might be lucky!

You are more than likely to get a temp work authorization from JFK, however I have heard that others have done it on a very very small scale. The only way to guarentee that you will not have any gaps is to get married the day you get here and apply for your AOS. The only problem with that is you will not have the marriage certificate to send with your AOS paperwork unless you live in one of those towns that will do them that day.

Once your temp authorization expires you are suppose to stop working unless you have the 1 year EAD card in hand.

Good Luck in whatever you decided to do.

SSN = Social Security Number - it take roughly 2 to 4 weeks to get if you are put into a system that Social Sercurity check for eligibility.

Yes there is one other way to get a temp EAD you can file form I-765 based on your K1 and with a bit of luck they might have processed it before it expires (90 days).... someone did this not too long ago and the EAD they got was valid for 3 days.....
