How would I go about finding employment if my meaningless piece of paper (degree) is not in IT, medicine, law, or engineering?

Undergrad dual degrees: Hispanic Studies and International Studies

Graduate degree: MA in Language and International Trade

I won't finish my program until December or possibly next April ('12) at the latest. The only thing I have going for me is 2 rental homes that is enough to pay the bills: 1 @ $825/month and 1 @ $1150/month

Should have a third by January 2012 (August if extremely lucky)...

My resume is kinda thin....I am actually considering a Comcast internship for $14/hour for 40 hours per week (need an internship for my degree and the only one my university provides is with the Mexican Consulate UNPAID)......

Am I screwed?

Why Study Spanish

In our everchanging and expanding global communtiy, our program prepares students for careers in:

  • Government Service
  • Journalism and Communications
  • Translating and Interpreting
  • Teaching at the secondary level
  • Travel and Tourism
  • International Business

India, gun buyback and steamroll.

I only know one person with an international studies degree. He moved to Japan and does training for Toyota.

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

By the way, what happened to your day trading venture?

I needed over $4,000 for the closing on the 2nd rental I picked up last year (finally closed in December)....Plus I thought I needed around $8,000 for repairs/renovations but I underestimated the costs and ended up spending around $13,000.

Long story short I didn't jump right into the stock market and make $1,500 a week like I thought I might....My account (which was small to begin with...around $7,000) was not moving in the direction I wanted it to so I just pulled everything out because it wasn't worth losing and then also losing the house due to insufficient funds...

I am not done with trading though and will hopefully start up again in the fall for round 4 or 5...

You picked those majors? No one had a gun to your head?

Because they are easy as hell. I barely have any homework and can get straight As with little effort...

Let's flash back to 2006 before I met my wife:

1) Still hadn't finished my associate's degree at community college

2) Wasn't going to school

3) No job

4) No money

5) Smoked weed, drank a little once in a while, drug a choice was cocaine and had a connection with a kingpin who sold kilos (my former friends cousin who was assassinated a few years ago)

2006 rolls around and I meet my wife:

1) Stop smoking cigs, drinking, doing drugs

2) Go back to school

3) Start working immediately

4) Start exercising 6 days a week, drinking nothing but water (I remember when I first got on the treadmill I threw up walking out of the gym..within months I could run a mile in under 6 minutes)

Long story short:

1) Had amazing motivation to learn a second language (Spanish)

2) Didn't need to pick out a major while in community college

3) 2007 rolls around and I need to decide on a major (computers are extremely difficult, and I am trying to avoid all math and science courses)

4) BINGO - I am still not fluent in Spanish but taking the courses so "Hispanic Studies" is the obvious choice...I do understand that it isn't exactly a choice that will get me a career upon graduating such as IT/Medicine/Law/Engineering....Hence why I had to go on for a Master's

hmm. Maybe if you have any kind of negative marks on your record a government job might not be in your future. Then again you never know until you apply.

I wonder if he could see his way to becoming gay. Maybe just gay enough to get a job at DLI? :star:

(Google gay+DLI)
