quick question regarding USC coming into England for a visit

Ok when we go visit our OH's we have to fill in that Visa Waiver thing (forget what it was called)(hopefully you will understand what am trying to get at)

is there anything like that, that the USC has to apply for in order to get into this country?

I believe you're talking about ESTA, and the answer is no.. There's no pre-clearance you have to get to go to England. Just have to have proof you're going to return home at the end of the trip/ties to the US.

Hi Colin, I have traveled over to london 10 times in the past 2 yrs and only on one occasion did a border control officer give me a hard time. Just tell your fiance to be prepared to answer some questions about who/why and for how long she is visiting and where she will be staying (she'll have to write down exact address & phone on the landing card they will give her on the plane). As long as she has a passport & return flight she will be fine. If you guys decide to get married in the UK instead, then she will need a marriage visa before travel and have to follow UK laws...I did this and it was easy-peasy. Enjoy every second of your visit!

Lori will be staying at my address for 1 week so that's all good for her to write down

and won't be getting married were going through the K1 process and getting married would mess all of that up

Well, just like coming to the US, people seem to have slightly different experiences based on which port of entry. I've only ever come in through LHR and Gatwick, and never had to answer more than business or pleasure and how long I was staying, despite also being young and single and there to visit people rather than places. I have heard a lot of people get hassled at Manchester. My sister was one of them.

Of course, my sister was also the classic immigrant risk we talk so much about in the K1 forum. Young, single, also, Jobless and freshly graduated from university. Although she had an apartment, the lease was up the following month. Oh yes, and she was visiting a friend for 3 weeks.

However, they are interested in the same things that the US guys are, and seem to put even more emphasis on how you're going to support yourself. Some people might consider it to be overkill, but for peace of mind, you might just want to have her bring what she can from the list at visajourney.com/content/k1visit I think that for entry into the UK, proof that you two are invested in immigration the OTHER way would be fairly compelling.

Next time Nik and I head over that way I'll be bringing the printed out itinerary as well as a print out of the little form I have to get my boss to approve just as standard procedure to get time off in the first place. But Nik's green card will definitely be the ace.
