I think people who are so trusting, in light of the compilation of unanswered questions and contradictions, are loony.

What unanswered questions? Apply that logic to my own and my son's circumstance. Are you actually going to suggest that he is or might be in the US illegally because I only have access to the short form birth certificate and I should not trust the employees who provided me with the certificate that proves his status?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Danno, there is no need for a constitutional amendment to legitimize the histrionics of birthers like you.Fact of the matter is, eligibility requirements are already in the constitution (Article 2, Section 1, Clause 5). Federal election commission enforce federal election laws that state that only a natural born citizen can run for president. Birthers don't seem to even realize the insanity of the logistics needed to support their suggestion that he was born in Kenya, not to mention the massive government coverup and forged documents to illegally get him into the country. Here is the text, since you clearly haven't read the constitution in a while:

Not entirely true. He was born in the Panama Canal Zone, a military zone that is considered U.S. soil. So even if one of his parents was not American, he would still be a natural born American.

In 2008, the US Senate passed a resolution declaring McCain a natural born citizen due to the American citizenship of both of his parents. Ironically, Obama signed it into law.

Even if both his parents weren't citizens, he would be a natural born citizen as he was technically born on U.S. soil.

Back on topic, there is no need for a constitutional amendment to show eligibility prior to taking office because it is already mentioned, in the constitution. I find it laughable Danno that you suggest a constitutional amendment that has been in the constitution since 1787.

Lots of things in the Constitution have required clarification or modification. Just being in the Constitution hasn't always been enough.

Even the founding fathers didn't expect us to trust the government.

Here is an idea. If a large enough percentage of people no longer trust birth records that article in the constitution is no longer enforceable and should be removed.

What are Obama's birth records?

The text concerning this is not vague, nor is it ambiguous. Danno is just too lazy to read it before starting this thread. But that sort of thinking seems to be par for the course for teabaggers.

So because people are stupid we should invalidate a clause of the constitution? That's a slippery slope you're treading on.

The Constitutional language re "natural born" is indeed vague. Also, Obama is not the first to have his status questioned. The rest were White men.

This might be an interesting moment to share a resource I came across from my recent past:

Political Paranoia: The Psychopolitics of Hatred. By Robert S. Robins and Jerrold M. Post. New Haven, CT: Yale University Press, 1997.

(trust me, it talks a lot more than just hate)

An excellent book by two very well known political psychiatrists and their characterization of how people that are frankly crazy, say, do, and believe crazy things when it comes to politics.
